From Hitoog Cave, my habal-habal driver offered to bring me to Karap-agan Falls in Sitio Mahayahay of Barangay Elevado. Being located in Mahayahay, some people started calling Karap-agan Falls as Mahayahay Falls.

By the way, the falls is closer to the town proper compared to Hitoog Cave.

From the road, I crossed Esperanza River twice to get to Karap-agan Falls. Along the way was a stunning amalgamation of greens. The reflection of the foliage on the serene surface of Esperanza created a vision of an enchanting world.

Karap-Agan is a two-tiered waterfall. With safety in mind, I carefully searched my way up to the middle section of the falls. Up there is a deep pool created by the strong pressure of the upper tier. The powerful current and the slippery rocks limited my movements.  Read More:  http://www.freedomwall.net/travel/canigao-island-hitoog-cave-and-karap-agan-mahayahay-falls-a-travel-guide-to-matalom-leyte/

When I hear about Matalom in Leyte, Canigao Island comes to mind. But recently, this beautiful waterfall has been making rounds waiting to be explored – the Mahayahay falls. It is also locally known as Karap-agan falls. I am a sucker for waterfalls and if I am to choose between this and the beach, I’d honestly pick the fresh water adventure.

Ironically, “mahayahay” could mean “easy going” or “easy life” but the road to this hidden beauty wasn’t easy. You will drive through a rough and rocky road, trek along the river and over a tree, literally. It was challenging but not very hard. You just need to be careful and watch your step because it is slippery, as most things wet.

It was a sight to behold as the sound of the gushing waters, coolness of the air and quietness of the surroundings will give you serenity. The thing I love about waterfalls is their unique characteristics and for me, this one offers a great package.  Read More:  http://emjaefotos.com/2015/05/08/mahayahay-falls-a-hidden-beauty-in-matalom-leyte/

A waterfall that is waiting to be explored – the Mahayahay Falls locally known as Karap-agan Falls situated in Brgy. Mahayahay in Matalom, Leyte. This falls has a 2 layers of water drops.

Mahayahay or ayahay means ‘easy life’ in visayan dialect but the road going to this place wasn’t that ayahay. You have to passed by on a muddy and rocky road, trek a river and wild grasses but everything is worth it once you get to the falls.

We just found out from the driver on that day that there is a cave nearby – the Hitoog Cave in Brgy Hitoog. The cave has a fresh cold water that flows and serve as a potable water to the residents.  Read More:  https://greedypeg.org/leyte/Mahayahay-Falls-or-Karap-agan-Falls.html
