Characterized by an endless expanse of grassy plains and rice fields, the province of Tarlac in central Luzon has long been bypassed or only used as a quick stopover by travelers making their way to Mt. Pinatubo, or more popular destinations father north like the cities of Baguio or Vigan. There are several hotel accommodations available for you, if you decide to overnight. The climactic eruption that rocked Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales on June 15, 1991, the effects of which reached neighboring countries, has allowed the birth of a new tourist destination out of the barely known and active volcano in the Philippines. With the traces of eruption still aplenty, Mt. Pinatubo and its surrounding areas has become an interesting mix of eruption signs and the new developments that transformed the place over the years.
While said catastrophic event has affected 364 communities, displaced 2.1 million people, damaged or wiped out sources livelihoods, destroyed and damaged 8,000 and 73,000 houses, respectively and an estimated 86,000 hectare farmland covered with “lahar” or volcanic ash, Mt. One of its attractions is the Tacsyapo wall, where one can pay for and smash dishes and other objects to vent or release anger, frustrations, annoyance or what-have you. There’s even a television worth Php 2,500 ready to be hurled. I wonder if anyone would be mad enough to spend that much and smash it to the wall. Tacsyapo, is supposedly a local expression equivalent to a curse. A writing on the wall cautions smashers to refrain from other vulgar words though. Read More: leonardairinco.wordpress.com
Eat anything edible. This is probably one of the tips taught in Subic jungle survival course. I can eat almost anything, except, well, many vegetables. Still, this doesn’t stop me from appreciating good food, specially those with good prices and ambiance.
These are the reasons why I appreciate the Isdaan Restaurant, located in Gerona, Tarlac — a perfect spot midway to Baguio from Metro Manila, not so much in distance, but in terms of, how do I say it, level of starvation? Isdaan is a big place and this floating restaurant is just beside the road (at the left side if you’re going towards the direction of Baguio), so you won’t probably miss it. You’ll see the big Isdaan signage, as well as the big, brown fox, er, fish sculptures and Mayan-inspired statues.
Choose the single cottages in the middle of the floating restaurant, as it gives you precious space from the rest of the crowd and a great view of the plentiful fish swimming below. It’s after all a floating restaurant and there’s water under and around the cottage where you’re sitting down. You could ask for fish food and feed the fish while waiting for the food you’ve ordered. A welcome diversion for the kids. Read More: visitpinas.com
