SURFING IN LA UNION
La Union is arguably one of the most underrated tourist spots in the Philippines, as it is overshadowed by the more popular and advertised tourist destinations such as Boracay, Palawan, and Batangas. It is located in the Northeastern part of Luzon, where it sits between the spiny mountains of Cordillera and the South China Sea. La Union brags two nicknames: the Surfing Capital of Northern Philippines and the Garden Coast (due to it’s botanical gardens). In addition, tourists can also contribute to the Green Zinc Clean Shores, a non-profit organization that aims to protect the Philippine beaches and raise awareness to both locals and visitors. La Union will definitely mesmerise visitors to stay for a couple of days to experience its beauty and the numerous activities it provides. – Text from: https://aiesecubc.wordpress.com/2012/11/14/escape-november-la-union-philippines/

It is during the rainy season that waves are usually bigger. It only means it is a great time to surf. Local of La Union, Camille Pilarbacked up this claim in her article in windowseat.ph, “The surf town of San Juan, La Union comes alive during the north swell season when the northeast tradewinds (locally known as the amihan winds) bring consistent swells to the coastline from October to April. The southwest monsoon, known as the habagat, will also yield waves during the months of July to September.” The most famous surf school in La Union offers surfing lessons, where you can learn basic board skills, paddling, riding the waves and by the end of the session, you can definitely stand up and surf on your own. – Text from: http://www.jetsetterasia.com/go-travel/travel-hack/rainy-day-getaways/
