Capiz is a province in the Philippines located in the middle islands of the Visayas. The province is known as the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines.”

Among other things that make Capiz among the top 15 most frequently visited places in the Philippines are: (1) the Placuna placenta oyster shell that is used for decoration and making lampshades, trays, window and doors, and (2) the largest Catholic Church bell in Asia measuring seven feet in diameter, five feet in height and weighing 10,400 kilograms or just over 10 metric tons made from 70 sacks of gold and silver coins donated by the townsfolk.

Capiz is dubbed as the “Seafood Capital of the Philippines” because of its 80-kilometer coastline and wide expanse of swampy lands easily converted into fishponds. It holds one of the richest fishing grounds and is a major contributor in the aquamarine industry of the Philippines. Farming and fishing are the primary sources of income for the people. Rich fish ponds attract investors to venture into prawn culture, prawn feed manufacture, seaweed farming and the distribution and processing of other marine products. A robust workforce of 445,246 operates with a literacy rate of 92.04%. Its relatively unexplored caves are said to have high deposits of mineral resources such as limestone, gold and metal. How to Get There

Roxas is the main city of Capiz.

By Air

Travel time to Roxas City is 45 minutes by plane. There are two (2) airlines operating in Roxas City (RXS): Philippine Airlines (PAL) and Cebu Pacific have a daily schedule flight from Roxas-Manila and Manila-Roxas.

By Sea

Travel time to Roxas City is around 16 hours by ship from Manila. There is one passenger ship operating in Culasi Port, Roxas city, Capiz: Moreta Shipping Lines’ M/V Love 1 which embarks for Capiz twice a week.

Capiz is approximately 2 hours by bus or private car from Iloilo City. There are also ferryboats and buses that travel from Romblon and Masbate that goes through Capiz.
