Catanduanes is endowed with mountainous terrain and pristine beaches. It was chosen as one of the shooting locations for the US-based reality TV show “Survivor” in 2012 and it was entitled “Survivor: Caramoan”. Below are other interesting places that are worthy of being the shooting location for other international TV and movie shows:

Puraran Surfing Site

Every year, the Puraran Surfing Site is a host to local and foreign advanced surfers from September to October. Many enthusiasts come to see the the powerful barreling wave of the Majestics, whose beauty is renowned worldwide.

Luyang Cave Park

Luyang Cave is located in San Andres, Catanduanes. The adventurer could revel in the sight of the corridors of majestic and colossal stalactites and stalagmites where countless bats reign.

Located below the San Andres-Virac Highway, it served as the hiding place for locals during the Moro raid in the early years of the 18th century. As the legend goes, the natives have started a bonfire at the mouth of the cave with the aim of warding off the invaders. Unfortunately, the winds have blown towards the cave, suffocating the natives instead.

Twin Rocks Beach

Twin Rocks is named after two iconic rocks jut out of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of barangay Igang in Virac. They don’t even look like twins, with the inner rock being much bigger than the outer one, but this place is a haven for surfboard and wind surfing. The underwater coral formations are ideal for spear fishing. Some caves are located nearby.

People came here to swim, snorkel, skin dive and play water sports in its crystal clear pristine waters. Twin Rocks is located just nine kilometers from the town capital of Virac, roughly 30 minutes from Virac seaport, and the Resort can be viewed while on board the ferry boat. It is a favorite destination for weekenders because it’s enclosed in a cove so the water is calm, which is makes it ideal for swimming particularly for the whole family.

Balete Beach

The sprawling Balete Beach with unspoiled beauty is covered with cool and shady trees and blessed with fine white sands, both in the shorelines and in the swimming area. The beach provides an ideal place for recreation, fun, relaxation, and picnics.

The whole stretch of Balite and Mamangal continues to beguile visitors with its unspoiled beauty; an asset which the locals within the area are guarding zealously. Solong Falls

The Solong Falls in Solong, San Miguel is secluded and relatively unexplored. The waterfalls with an elevation of 100 meters and flow into natural pools offer visitors with a refreshing and invigorating dip. It is located within the lush vegetation that creates forests with peaceful and ethereal beauty. The mountain resort is fast becoming a popular recreation area for nature lovers and mountain hikers. Cottages are available for picnic goers and adventurers at a minimal entrance fee.

Maribina Falls

Maribina Falls is the most popular and widely-publicized water falls in Catanduanes. The waterfall is gushing with rapids of crystal-clear waters within its 3-tiered cascades and flows down into a clear natural pool. It is surrounded with lush-green vegetation, ideal for getaways and picnics.

Bato Church

Made of mortar and coral stone, this edifice is a fine example of mid-colonization Filipino-Spanish architecture. It was built under the polo system of forced labor for a total of 53 years, started in 1830 and finished in 1883. Bato Church has withstood wars, calamities and the ravages of time to become the only remaining structure of its genre in the entire island and the second-largest church in Bicol region. In its tower still houses the legendary bell that once served as a warning device for incoming Japanese guerrillas during the Second World War. Seen from the other side of the river the old church looks majestic and imposing. Proudly the church stands as the oldest in the province.

Nahulugan Falls

Catanduanes is not a very popular province, but not due of lack of tourist spots, but probably because of its being the typhoon capital of the Philippines. For this reason, less tourists are eager to explore the place, leaving most of its natural wonders still pristine and unspoiled.

One example of Catanduanes’ immaculate treasure is the Nahulugan cascading waterfalls which can be found in Gigmoto. This falls is a three-tiered wonder with cool and crystal-clear water and secluded by the island’s luscious green jungle.

For the nature lovers, seeking privacy and serenity, this is haven.
