We continued our island hopping and took the 30-minute boat ride to Banana Island. How it got its name, I have no idea. I assume it’s due to the shape. Banana’s beach was shorter and the waters, though also as clear, were deeper. As a consolation, the marine life was better over in these parts, and the infrastructure was a bit more well developed. Dicalabuan Island, or more popularly known as Banana Island, is one of the many pristine islands in Bulalacao, Coron, Palawan. It is called Banana Island because it looks like a submerged banana from a distance (however, there are no bananas planted in the island).
Going to the island requires a 2 – hour boat ride (a wet and wild one, at least for my experience) from Coron mainland. This island paradise brags powdery white sand and azure clear waters plus a sandbar that goes under water at high tide. It is definitely a good spot for snorkeling (we saw baby sharks during our stay here), and great view of both the sunrise and sunset. The next island was known before as Isla de Saging. “Isla” literally means “island“, “de” means “of” and “saging” means “banana,” as owned by Tagbanuas (genuine local/ ethnic tribe from Palawan) but when an entire island is sold to another person, all rights are surrendered and thus the place can change its name if desired by the rightful owner. It had brought the change of name of the island which is now called Banana Island, from Spanish into its English name. Simply translated by it’s foreign owner.
It has resting areas like the huts, picnic table, benches, plenty of shades from the trees (mostly coconuts), volleyball area, and most important of all, is an area to eat! The lunch was spicy crab, grilled fish, rice, fruits and bottle of coke (all included in the tour package). Read More: https://violetxplorer.wordpress.com/tag/banana-island/
