WONDERFUL PLACES
IN SORSOGON
Visit the “Switzerland of the Orient” located at the southernmost tip of Luzon and explore its abundant natural tourist attractions. The province of Sorsogon in Bicol Region is a prime eco-tourist destination offering pristine beaches, unexplored caves, numerous waterfalls, national parks, marine reserve and more. Here is a list of some of the things you can do and see to help you plan your next visit in the province.
Paguriran Island

A little gem of an island is tucked away in a quiet corner of Bacon, Sorsogon – the picturesque Paguriran Island. Paguriran is a tiny group of coral and rock islets located off the white sand beaches of Sawanga in Bacon. It is accessible from the adjacent beach by wading through crystal clear waters, the depth of which may range from ankle to waist depending on the tides. Within the island, coralline and granite crags enclose a shallow lagoon that is perfect for swimming (you have to watch out for sharp corals, though).
Rizal Beach

Rizal in Gubat is the only beach in Sorsogon that is at the center of a cove. It’s one of the best pristine beaches in the Philippines, where miles of golden sand surround an extensive shoreline.
It is a long, broad beach located 5 km south of Gubat, Sorsogon. It is close to the turbulent San Bernardino Strait thus the big surfing waves that could thrill swimmers and most especially the surfers. The grey-sand beach itself is long and is at the center of a cove surrounding an extensive shoreline. Some say it is the best beach in Sorsogon and it is an ideal place for boating, swimming and beach combing. Facing the Pacific Ocean, this place isn’t as developed as one might think, which is actually good in some way. Although resorts have sprouted in its vicinity (old Duana resort and new places like Vera Maris) where travellers and vacationeers can stay the night, the rawness of the place have been somewhat preserved.
Bucal-bucalan Spring

We left our house and rode a tricycle going to Bucal–Bucalan Spring for P24 only (P8/head). It is famous for its spring clear water at Aguada, Magallanes. The entrance fee for adults is P10/head and for kids is only P5/head. They also offer “salbabidas” (life preservers) for P25. It was so hot that we felt the temperature of the refreshing cold Bucal–Bucalan. The water is crystal clear that my nephew can see his feet underwater. There were three (3) types of pool springs at Bucal–Bucalan, the new one was designed for kids (waist deep), but parents should watch over their children because the water is too deep at the biggest pools (more than 7ft.).
