Miagao Church

This church is a must-see structure in the Province of Iloilo because of its historical and architectural value. Seeing the Miagao Church from afar was awesome. It’s overall architectural style falls under the Baroque-Romanesque architectural style. When compared from other old churches I have visited in the past, Miagao Church was quite different. The façade looked very clean and not mossy. Miagao Church was radiant with an ochre color due to the materials used in constructing the church which was adobe (materials used in some houses, even to these days), egg for binders, corals,and limestone.

The Miagao Church was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on December 11, 1993 together with San Agustin Church in Manila; Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion Church in Santa Maria, Ilocos Sur; and San Agustin Church in Paoay, Ilocos Norte under the collective title Baroque Churches of the Philippines, a collection of four Baroque Spanish-era churches. Marbuena Island

First to greet visitors to Marbuena Island Resort is its gleaming white sandbar, a characteristic sand formation, which changes shape depending on the direction of the wind and stretches more than a hundred feet away from the shore during low tide. Perhaps the most interesting part of Marbuena island is its “nature trail,” which circles the whole island, offering a panoramic view of the sea and surrounding islands — you can catch a glimpse of the islands of Concepcion including the towering Mt. Pan de Azucar in the north, the island and mountain ranges of Negros Occidental in the east, The islands of Nasidman and Calabaza in the south, and mainland Panay in the west. Mt. Manaphag / Mt. Pan de Azucar

Mount Pan de Azucar, Spanish for “Sugarloaf”, is located on Pan de Azucar Island. It is one of the mountains and hills worldwide named “Sugarloaf” because of its tall conical shape resembling an old sugarloaf of the 19th century, not because of its resemblance to Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as falsely reported on some local websites.

At 574 meters the steep-sided Mt. Pan de Azucar, also called Mt. Manaphag, is the most prominent feature and distinguishable landmark of the island. The lofty cone is one of the inactive volcanoes in the country. The island is ringed by beaches, such as Lumpatan Beach in Bagotao, Brgy. Macatunao which are golden-yellow to white in color.
