BANGON-BUGTONG FALLS

Foremost among the wonders of Samar’s “City of Waterfalls” is Bangon-Bugtong Falls. Travelling to this waterfall from Calbayog entails taking a 1hr 15 min ride to Brgy. Tinaplacan, and then a 3-km walk from the highway (which can also be habal-habal ride). Kinda far, but well worth it.

The waterfall is actually a system of cascades; to get to the main falls you have to walk on the cascades themselves. This ascending route will culminate in the main falls, which has a large, circular pool. Swimming, after the long ride, is refreshing. Just be careful because there are very slippery portions, just like any waterfall. Also, long habal-habal rides are quite expensive; so it is best to travel by groups or really prepare a budget. Although Calbayog is just one city, it is actually larger than the subprovince of Biliran Island! – Read More: http://www.pinoymountaineer.com/2007/12/bangon-bugtong-falls.html

The Dept. of Tourism has identified Bangon Falls in Calbayog City, Samar as one of the tourism-development areas and part of the Eastern Visayas Tourism Roadmap.

The tourism roadmap, according to DOT 8 regional director Karina Rosa Tiopes, envisions to heighten the competitiveness of the region as alternative destination of tourists and increase their length of stay, thus, spreading the economic benefits of tourism to all parts of the region.

This week, a team from the DOT visited the falls to determine the viability of the site and those needed to be established in Bangon to make it truly viable.

Tiopes said that while the attraction has been visited by some tourists, there are still many things to consider for it to become “market-ready” – the road access, potential activities in the falls area and the amenities it can provide to tourists.  Read More:  http://asianjournal.com/lifestyle/dot-identifies-samars-bangon-falls-as-another-potential-tourist-attraction-in-e-visayas/

Bangon Water Falls is a scenic 3-tiered waterfall with a combined height of 60 meters located in Barangay Tinaplacan, Calbayog City. It is just one of the 20 water falls in the area. This is the reason, why Calbayog has been tagged as the “City of Waterfalls”. Barangay Tinaplacan is just one of the 157 barangays of Calbayog.

From the point where the habal-habal parked, one may trek upstream for around 10 minutes. One has to trek against a running stream cascading downstream coming from the falls. Solid and massive rocks where you step on might be slippery and you have to look closely on it to avoid slipping down.  Read More:  http://lexicalcrown.blogspot.com/2016/01/bangon-water-falls.html

This can be considered as the crown jewel of Calbayog wonders. Located at Barangay Tinaplacan, to the north of Calbayog, it is one of the most beautiful and spectacular scenic spots worth visiting in this area. From Calbayog City, it is about an hour-and-15-minute ride to Barangay Tinaplacan, then it is about another 45-minute walk to the vicinity of the falls…and it is definitely worth the effort.  This ascending route up river will culminate in reaching the main falls, which features a large, circular pool about 30 meters in diameter, wide enough for swimming and plenty deep for diving.   The waterfall is actually a system of cascades and to get to the main falls you have to walk on the cascades themselves. Among the family of waterfalls of Calbayog City, Bangon and Bugtong Falls are among the most popular.   Bangon-Bugtong Falls is not only a tourist spot but also a potential future source of hydro-electric power for Calbayog City and its neighboring localities. This beautiful  scenic spot has been featured thrice in the calendars of three multi-national corporations.  Read More:  http://calbayoginfo.com/attractions/bangon-bugton-falls/
