UMIRAY RIVER

Umiray River is the river that separates Aurora and Quezon provinces. It is bounded by the towns of Dingalan in Aurora and General Nakar in Quezon.
It is used as a means of transport by the illegal loggers. From the mountains, the illegal loggers float the troso (lumber) and float them downstream up to the ocean.
It is a tributary of the Pacific Ocean. During the late 20th century (and continuing up to the present), it has been the site of several clashes between the army and the communist group, the New People’s Army.
Recently, the government has made a project to link the Pacific Ocean with Angat River in Bulacan‘s mountains through a tunnel that will traverse Umiray River then cut through the mountains of Sierra Madre straight to Angat River. Read More: http://greedypeg.org/aurora/Umiray-River.html

Umiray is formerly named “Malamig” and later named after the famous Umiray River, the longest river in the municipality which serves as the boundary of Aurora and Quezon Province.
Barangay Umiray is located 24 kilometers south of Dingalan Proper. It has an area of 10,970 hectares, the biggest barangay in the municipality in term of area. The place is characterized by hill top mountainous and only 20% of the land area is flat to rolling. Umiray has 16 sitios. The Umiray-Angat-Ipo river systems located in Quezon and Bulacan provinces supply 97 percent of the water needs of residents of Metro Manila and suburban areas.
