Tampisaw, a Hiligaynon term that means “to frolic” or “playfully wade in the water” is Concepcion’s way of Celebrating Earth Day. The festival is held in Pan de Azucar Island on the fourth week of April.

Known for having the most beautiful seascape in the province, the festivity emphasizes the necessity of conserving our natural resources with activities such as the Fluvial Parade, Agro-Fishery Fair, Motorized Banca Race, Game Fishing Festival, Tree Planting and other environment education activities. The gem of the 3-day event is Mutya sang Tampisaw.

The municipality of Concepcion’s ‘Tampisaw Festival’ is set to kick off Thursday to coincide with the Earth Day celebration which “highlights the importance of marine conservation.”

Tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta said the annual event is a showcase of how tourism and environmental protection can work together, highlighting the town’s pristine environment, its clean beaches and marine resources.

“Promoting tourism is sometimes considered as pain by environmentalists but here they are combining tourism with environmental programs,” he said.

“Tampisaw” which means to playfully wade in water, is an affectionate term that reflects the townspeople’s love of the sea and nature. It was coined by Tourism assistant regional director, Lawyer Helen Camarista during a multi-sectoral forum that was held in Concepcion.

Most of its activities are concentrated in Pan de Azucar Island which include among others the fluvial parade, tree planting, environment education activity, food festivals, trade fair, island hopping, search for “Perlas sang Tampisaw” and a disco party by the beach.
