I’ve always loved waterfalls, Cebu is fortunate to have been bestowed with such. I have been to some of these falls such as Kawasan Falls in Badian and Mantayupan Falls in Barili, even reaching Negros just to see there famous Casaroro Falls. However, one falls stood out from those that I have seen and that is the Tumalog Falls in Oslob, Cebu.
Tumalog Falls or “Mag-ambak Falls” is unique in its own way as it contains a number of umbrella-like stone formations from where water cascades from its the source. You can position yourself under one of its umbrellas and satisfy yourself with the cold water. It’s like a natural shower!!! One thing you can’t easily do in bigger falls. One of the best things about our home province of Cebu is that our humble island is jam-packed with so many unique natural wonders. Come to think of it, each municipality has its own set of “specialty” attractions, and many more are still being discovered. Cebu is like a paradise of multiple facets. It’s no wonder then why so many visitors, local or foreign, fall in love with Cebu.
One of these natural wonders is the unique horseshoe waterfall of Tumalog Falls in Oslob, a municipality 170 kilometers from Cebu City. Lately, it has gotten a lot of attention after it became a side trip for people who wish to see the butandings. Since our early-year excursion ended in Oslob, we decided to make Tumalog Falls our last stopover. Whalesharks are not the only attraction in Oslob, Cebu. Oslob is in the southern part of Cebu so it is filled with magnificent tourist destinations. One of them is the majestic, surreal, breathtaking Tumalog Falls. I have been to Badian, Cebu and saw the Kawasan Falls and my heart stopped because of the view. But when I saw Tumalog Falls, it took my breath away.
When you reach the area, a small pool-like water formation which is blue-green in color will welcome you. Keep going up and you will notice that the formation looks like stairs of fountain.
When you reach the top, you will be amazed by a huge pool of water, the depth is only at the level of your chest, the water is not really cold and the height of the falls is so high, it looks like a huge bathroom shower that the water falling down is sprinkled lightly above your head.
