Cebu is home to the Sinulog, which is considered among the grandest festivals in the whole archipelago. But, Cebu has more festivals to offer to visitors looking for something less grand yet still as fun. A good number of the towns in Cebu have their own festivals celebrating something significant in the town. For the City of Bogo, their festival celebrates the delicacy known as the pintos.

The pintos is a local delicacy that is made of ground corn, margarine or butter and milk. This popular delicacy is wrapped inside corn husk. The delicacy is cooked by soaking it in boiling water for around an hour. The delicacy was also used as the inspiration for the Pintos Festival in Bogo City. The Pintos Festival served as the replacement of another festival known as the Kuyayang Festival. The older festival is based on a traditional courtship dance. Pintos Festival is a newly organized annual event in Bogo City, Cebu, which celebrates a popular delicacy made from corn.  The festival is a replacement of an older celebration called ‘Kuyayang Festival’, which is rooted in a traditional courtship dance festivity.  Pintos fiesta is celebrated in the latter part of May and this coincides with the town fiesta celebrating its patron saint – Saint Vincent Ferrer (May 26).

Bogo City is about 100 kilometers north of Metro Cebu, the province’s booming capital city and the center of business, education, leisure and culture.  Read More:  http://www.cebu-bluewaters.com/pintos-festival.html

A popular delicacy made from ground corn and wrapped in corn husk and known as pintos, is the star of a new festival in Bogo town in Cebu. The Pintos Festival, which coincides with the town fiesta during the latter part of May, replaces the Kuyayang Festival, with its roots in a traditional courtship dance.

While the sweet delicacy is now the center of efforts to promote the city, through the Pintos Festival, Bogo has other attractions.

Bogo is located 101 kilometers north of Cebu City, where one can take a two-hour bus ride. It is also accessible by sea from Masbate, Daanbantayan, and Bantayan Island.  The shift in focus from the kuyayang dance to the pintos, reflects a positioning more aligned with the city’s strengths: Most of Bogo’s flat lands are devoted to agriculture, with corn among the chief products.

Its location, thriving agriculture and fishery industry and the presence of three wharves — Polambato (for ships and shipping vessels), Poblacion (pumpboats and fishing vessels) and Nailon (motorized pumpboats and bancas) — strengthen its bid to become the center for trade and commerce in the area north of Cebu.  Read More:  http://www.tourism.gov.ph/Pages/20110710SweetbeginningforPintosFestivalofBogoCebu.aspx
