When watching the Buyogan Festival, you will be experiencing one of the best 10 festivals in the Philippines. The realistic costumes and artistic choreography focus on the movement and appearance bees or “buyog”. The highlight of the festival would be the parade of brightly colored dancers performing a choreographed bee dance. There would also be costumed children buzzing around in a bee-like manner. There would also be other participants joining in the parade tattooed with tribal henna designs on their bodies and faces to represent their town’s ethnic history.

The festival coincides with the feast day of the town saint, St. Francis Xavier, usually around the last weekend of August. Read More: https://triptheislands.com/events/the-buyogan-festival-of-abuyog-leyte/

This town’s Buyogan Festival has been invited by the International Association for Human Values (IAHA) of Malaysia to participate in the World Culture Festival on March 11-13, 2016 in New Delhi, India.

The festival is fresh from its win as best in street dancing — free interpretation category during the 2016 Sinulog Festival  in Cebu City. It also won 3rd place both as best musicality and free interpretation categories.

The invitation was personally hand-carried by Siaw San Liew to the mayor on Monday. Liew is the project leader of Philippines Empowerment Program of IAHA.  Read More:  http://isumat.com/leytes-buyogan-festival-invited-to-perform-in-india/

The crowd went wild when one of the pride of Leyte was introduced to perform the famous dancing bees of Abuyog. It was a clear manifestation that indeed, they are the most expected and regarded as one of the best performing group in the country.

Most of us had high hopes and expected that Buyogan will once again bring home the highest tangible recognition of the competition, unfortunately this time it was Tribu Pan-Ay of Dinagyang Festival who bagged the most coveted title for this year’s Aliwan Fiesta hosted by Manila Broadcasting Company.
