My annual vacation with the old school gang took us this time to Davao City, and we landed just before lunchtime.  Since we were all famished (we were up at 4am to make it to NAIA Terminal 2 in time for the 9am flight), we headed straight to the famous carinderia of Davao–Luz Kinilaw Place!  The place hasn’t changed much from what I remember it used to look like when I first visited Davao in 1990.

We were lucky that seating was readily available when we arrived.  We just had to order tuna kinilaw (which is raw tuna, ginger and onions bathed in vinegar), the specialty of the place.  The vinegar cooks the meat and gives a tangy zing to the dish.  We also ordered grilled squid, and an assortment of grilled tuna delicacies.  Read More:  http://richric2003.blogspot.com/2012/09/luz-kinilaw.html

If you are buying affordable Durian, Pomelo, Marang, Magosteen go to Magsaysay Fruit Stand in Davao City. This is the road beside the Ramon Magsaysay Park and also the area where visitors of Davao go and buy their pasalubongs before going to the airport. Read more about Ramon Magsaysay Fruit Stand. Outside the Magsaysay Park is the Magsaysay Fruit Vendors Association which consists of a long row of fruit stands that sell Durian and other fruits abundant in Davao Region.  Read More:  http://jeffponce.blogspot.com/2012/07/cheapest-fruits-at-magsaysay-fruit.html

Magsaysay Park

It is not my plan to visit Magsaysay Park. While walking along the street of Magsaysay, to wait for a bus going to Samal Island, I took the chance to take photos and simply walked inside the park. This city landmark was built in honor of the most-loved and revered president of the Philippines, Ramon Magsaysay who, in March 17, 1957, died in a plane crash in Mount Manunggal on Cebu Island while en route to Manila. He was the third President of the Republic of the Philippines.

At the center of the Park is the 25 meter long tri-pillar obelisk-like concrete tower that contains the life-size statue of President Magsaysay which serves as the main marker of the park.

The monument was built through the efforts of the Davao Chapter of the Philippine Veterans Legion and was turned over to the City Government of Davao on July 31, 1960.  Read More:  http://boylakwatsero.blogspot.com/2013/01/magsaysay-park-davao-city.html
