Balagbag Falls is the biggest of the three falls located in Barangay Mapalad in Real. It has about 100 feet of cascading water.

Balagbag falls is a two level cascade with a deep catch basin on the second cascade. The first falls is huge – more than three stories high. But the water flows softly down to dozens of small cascades like melting candle. There is no catch basin on the first falls as the water flows on to the second drop. Aside from the two major falls there, there is a small drop midway between the two big ones. You’ll be passing by this small falls as you climb up to the first from the campsite. The catch basin is just big enough to fit a couple of persons. Its like having your own personal cascade and hydro-massage setup. My friends and I spotted this vacant lot while driving around the main road of the municipality. To our surprise, it’s the jump off point of the Balagbag Waterfalls which is a 10-minute trek from the main road. Good thing it is just a short walk because we didn’t have any hiking shoes ready. We thought we were going surfing remember? Since the trail is not steep at all, we made do with our flip-flops. There were huts all over the place. Thank God we have our trusty sporks and canned goods ready. Lunch is served! Hunger assuaged, Balagbag waterfalls beckoned.

It was a sight to behold. Balagbag was about 2 storeys high and wider than it is taller. Notwithstanding its surprisingly frigid temperature, we went under the falls and felt its thunderous water pounding our back muscles. What a sensation! It was like having a massage with the sound of the waterfalls roaring in your ears. It made us feel relaxed and refreshed at the same time. And the view? Amazing!
