MACATEL FALLS

Macatel Falls has crystal waters that run in abundance throughout the year. There are nipa cottages on the banks for day-tour visitors. A well-placed big flat rock on the left side is a favorite diving platform for those who dare to dive 8m high down to the 6m deep basin formed at the base of the falls. The basin is wide enough to do some backstroke/freestyle swimming from end to end.

At the top of the falls is a small basin 2m deep. The flowing water into this small basin sculptured a natural slide on the rock. Great fun sliding and get submerged in the bubbling water. Many shallow natural bathtubs around can be a safe and fun place for the kids.

It was a falls amidst the rice fields. A place one could easily miss since the falls can only be seen looking below the road. But the sound of gushing water was unmistakable with no crowd noise to mask its distinct sound. It was only a short way down to the falls where a few native huts could be found. Yes this is much better.

Macatel Falls has a nice low twin falls that reminds me so much of Magaso Falls in Siquijor. The natural basin isn’t deep but there are some moss of the rocks under the cool waters at that time. We were also able to explore the upper cascades and streams leading to the falls. It was just a challenge to photograph the place in the harsh afternoon light.
