Awao Falls

There are in fact numerous waterfalls in Compostela Valley, being a landlocked province surrounded with gold-rich mountains. Awao Falls in the town of Monkayo is one of, if not, the grandest of them all.

Tucked in the remote barangay of the same name, Awao Falls is Monkayo’s prized attraction. It features three layers of cascades, rumor has it that there is even fourth!

The first tier is the icon of Awao Falls. Commonly called as Falls 1, it is a towering curtain of cascading water dropping to a height of approximately 80 feet into a shallow and rocky catch basin. The water cascades on a rough and accented wall creating numerous droplets. Truly a majestic natural canvas!  Read More:  https://www.lakwatsero.com/spots/awao-falls-the-prized-attraction-of-monkayo-compostela-valley/#sthash.Tv6I5T0Q.dpbs

Lake Leonard

It was the serene view of Lake Leonard that welcomed us as we got there. The waters were at rest so still that the verdant foliage on the sides beautifully reflected on the mirror lake. Water lilies and lotus abound the waters. Fish cages and tilapia pens abound on the side. There were locals fishing in the middle of the lake using their bamboo raft.

I noticed that Lake Leonard is much loved by locals. It is their favorite place to relax and unwind. There were picnic goers when we arrived there enjoying the serene feel of the lake. Some kids enjoyed grilling their fresh catch on the side. There were groups of families too relishing their weekend picnic by lake. Such a quaintest picture.  Read More:  http://thetravelteller.com/the-untainted-beauty-of-macos-lake-leonard/

Mainit Sulfuric Hot Spring

When we got to Mainit Sulfuric Hot spring, it was the steaming view of the cascading waters that first took my interest. It was a new sight to me seeing hot steaming waters freely flowing from different geological formations.

In my desire to experience it first hand, I rushed to the hot waterfall base only to realize the waters were really hot. I had to soak my feet first in the gushing warm waters for couple of minutes for them to adjust with the temperature. When done, I ran to the cascading waters trying to test if I can brave its warmness. To my dismay, it is really hot. I told myself to wait until its dusk so it won’t be that boiling. And so I contented going around scrutinizing every inch of this place that was a new sight to my eyes.  Read More:  http://thetravelteller.com/macos-mainit-sulfuric-hot-spring-one-unique-destination-to-visit/

A favorite of hikers in Mindanao is one of the island’s most beautiful and yet formidable mountains, Mt. Candalaga in Compostela Valley. Home to the ethnic Mandayan and Mansaka tribes, the mountain is untamed and wild, as it is beautiful, steeped in folklore and blessed with a forest with a tantalizingly deep and dense foliage. Numerous waterfalls deck the mountain, and even at the start of the trail you will be welcomed by Marangig Falls, which is actually a system of waterfalls in 13 levels. Into the mountain, the flora and fauna is impressive: there are rafflesia, orchids, ferns, and trees covered with moss.  Read More:  http://www.pinoymountaineer.com/2008/07/mt-candalaga-2402.html

White Peak / Mt. Pandadagsaan

Photo from:  https://photocollectionbyalbert.wordpress.com/2010/12/01/white-peak/

This is White Peak, also known as Mount Pandadagsaan, in Barangay Andap, New Bataan, in the province of Compostela Valley. It has been called as such by local mountaineers because of the limestone embedded on its rocky west face which, when hit by sunlight, gives an almost sparkling, crystal-like towering appearance as contrasted to the thick green moss that surround it. With an elevation of 8, 878 feet above sea level, its cold temperature could range from 3 to 1 degrees centigrade and at times can drop to below zero. The mountain is the 3rd highest peak in Davao Region and ranked 13th in the Philippines. It is considered by Philippine mountaineers as a much difficult climb than Mount Apo, the country’s highest mountain peak, hence, first time would-be climbers are not allowed for safety reasons.  Read More:  http://davaocitybybattad.blogspot.com/2012/06/white-peak.html
