Aliwagwag Falls

The Aliwagwag Falls is a series of more than 130 cascading waterfalls located in Barangay Aliwagwag, about 30 minutes drive from the town’s Poblacion. It’s a unique waterfalls dotting with different rock formations, shapes and various heights. Each tier differs from another. It ranges from 6 to 110 feet. There is one measured at 72 feet and another is at 67. Overall, Aliwagwag Falls is 1,110 feet of cascading energy and 20 meters in width. Viewing it from afar, Aliwagwag Falls looks like a stairway to heaven. Not known to many, Aliwagwag Falls is considered by hydraulic engineers as the highest waterfalls in the Philippines and regarded as one of the most beautiful falls in the Philippines. Aliwagwag Falls Eco Park

Adding more attraction to an already interesting place, the town of Cateel has just recently developed a park that will surely boosts the region’s tourism – the Aliwagwag Falls Ecopark, also known as the Aliwagwag Nature Park.

Ensuring a visit that is appeals to both casual travelers and thrill-seekers, the park features a 680-meter zip line with a height of 55 meters from the ground which overlooks the canopy of the rainforest and the clear waters of Cateel River added by the beauty of Aliwagwag Falls in the background. Balite Hot Spring

Somewhere in Cateel-Baganga, Davao Oriental, while with members of the Maayong Buntag Mindanao Team, locals told us of a hot spring along Kinablangan highway.

After a long and winding trip exploring waterfalls, parks, and beaches, we thought of taking a dip in a hot spring as a welcome respite.

The locals were right; Water from the spring flowed into a small canal found by the side of the road along Kinablangan highway. The rustic ambiance of the area is complemented with huts alongside a man-made pool, where the hot spring can be found. It does not get as simple as this, as the area best describes the laid back life. A dip into the hot spring instantly relives muscle tension and body fatigue, such that it feels like magic working through one’s body. Campawan Curtain Falls

CAMPAWAN CURTAIN FALLS has come to fame when the doors of tourism in the eastcoast of Davao Oriental opened last year. For many years, this water wonder was kept preserved and only the local residents living nearby got to enjoy its natural beauty. But with its tourism potential, the roads going to Campawan were cleared and widened giving the way for other locals in nearby towns to come and see the town’s hidden water gem.

When a number of photos of Campawan Curtain Falls broke out in social media, many have mistaken it as Tinuy-an Falls found in Surigao Del Sur because of its similarity to the later. Like Tinuy-an Falls, Campawan Curtain Falls boasts of its wide water curtain extending to a width said to be the widest in the whole Davao Region. Caraga Church

Another fascinating thing CARAGA is so proud of is the SAN SALVADOR DEL MUNDO CHURCH, the Parish Church of the town, as it is known as the oldest Church in the whole Davao Region. Long before the arrivals of the Spaniards in the Davao Gulf to conquer what is now Davao City in 1848, Caraga is already established as a town and was part of Caraga Province (referring to CARAGA Region). The town served as a mission station of Spanish Missionaries in propagating Christianity in eastern Mindanao. San Salvador Del Mundo Church is the legacy and heritage they left to Caragenos. Lake Carolina

Carolina Lake nestled inside the thick verdant vegetation of Panghugan in Barangay Salingcomot, one the coastal barangays of Baganga sharing an estuary and water passage going to the seas of the Pacific. It is 15 minutes away from town proper and very accessible from the national highway. In fact, motorcycles can go directly to the Lake’s vicinity while four wheeled vehicles can park at the entrance. From the entrance, going down to the Lake it is about 5-minute walk.

The Carolina Lake is not actually a lake. It is more of a tidal creek or lagoon where a portion of a stream is affected by ebb and flow of ocean tides. Thus, the cool waters of Carolina are brackish and fishes that plentifully thrive there are those that live in marine waters. According to the locals, some giant eels can be found here.

More than the cool brackish waters, Carolina Lake is beauty in itself. The green and clean colors of the waters superbly complimented with verdant hues of green life that surrounds it. At times, the water sparkles once touched by the rays of the sun peeping from the century old trees covering it. Langyawan Cave
