Olongapo Grand Mardi Gras celebrated every October 27 – 29 in Olongapo City (Central Business District). This is a festival featuring street-dancing along Magsaysay Ave. with acoustic bands and stand-up comedians playing to the merriment of residents. Highlight of the event is the Halloween parade participated in by SBMA officials and employees, locators and school students garbed in the scariest costumes on board Halloween-themed floats.

Initiated in 1981 by then-City Mayor Richard J. Gordon in order to promote businesses in the city, the first Mardi Gras in Olongapo was quite a disorganized affair. There were no stages set up along the Ramon Magsaysay Avenue and each of the numerous bars along it just had their most popular bands and performers go out in the streets to perform their acts while Filipinos and Americans walked around.  Read More:  https://subic.morefun.ph/olongapo-city-mardi-gras-past-future/

Mardi Gras, the annual three-day Oktoberfest festival in the former US Navy liberty town will be held starting today until Oct. 30 at the Olongapo City’s main business center along Ramon Magsaysay Drive.

Entertainment personalities and bands headline the various activities during the festivities sponsored by the Olongapo City tourism with the special participation of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), San Miguel Brewery (SMB), Ginebra San Miguel (GSM), Purefoods and Pagcor.

The project is under the auspices of the Metro Olongapo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MOCCI) to raise funds for the benefit of the local police force and other community projects of Olongapo.   Read more at https://www.philstar.com/entertainment/2010/10/28/624521/mardi-gras-olongapo#MwJixpiy8qBvFqZU.99
