The Chico River is a river system in the Philippines in the island of Luzon, encompassing the regions of Cordillera and Cagayan Valley. It is the longest tributary of Cagayan River.

The most extensive river in the Cordillera region, it covers the provinces of Mountain Province, Kalinga and Cagayan. It is referred to as a “river of life” for the Kalinga people who live on its banks, and is well known among development workers because of the Chico River Dam Project, an electric power generation project which local residents resisted for three decades before it was finally shelved in the 1980s – a landmark case study concerning ancestral domain issues in the Philippines.  Read More:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chico_River_(Philippines)

The Chico River, formerly known as Rio Chico de Cagayan, is one of the streams connected to the large river of Cagayan. It can be found in the province of Kalinga.

The Chico has a stretch of 174.67 kilometers. Its water begins at Tinoc, Ifugao; Buguias, Benguet; and Mountain Province, and its tributaries are the Bunog River to the south, The Tanudan and Biga Rivers to the east, The Mabaca and Saltan Rivers to the North, and the Pasil River further downstream. Near the Chico River are other cultural and natural tourist spots like the rice terraces and the native villages.

This river is a famous whitewater rafting destination. It has clean water which can be calm or turbulent depending on the area. You can have an extreme sports adventure with your friends or a tranquil relaxation while you admire the green vegetation of the Kalinga Forest.    Read more:  https://www.vigattintourism.com/tourism/articles/Chico-River-A-World-class-Whitewater-Rafting-Destination

Tabuk is the gateway to the 174.67 kilometer long Chico River, a tributary of Cagayan River that spans in the provinces of Ifugao, Benguet, Mountain Province and the whole of Central Kalinga. Spaniards first named the river as “Rio Chico de Cagayan” or “Little River of Cagayan” to differentiate it from the “Rio Grande of the Cagayan” or what is known now as “Cagayan River”.

White water rafting in Chico River is considered by many as the best in the Philippines, with difficulty peaking to Class V and the “unraftable” Class VI during rainy season. But generally, water levels is of Class III and IV based on International Scale of difficulty.

There are two levels of rafting in Chico River – the Ullalim and Mataguan Runs. For beginners, the Ullalim Run that covers the entire stretch from the Chico River tributary in Pasil to Tabuk is ideal for its Class III rapids amid the scenic surrounding. Meanwhile, the Mataguan Run that runs from Tinglayan to Pasil is best for advance and experienced with its Class III and IV rapids passing through rice terraces, narrow limestone canyons and gorges. Combining the two gives an extreme, one-of-a-kind, adrenaline-pumping white water rafting experience that you will truly enjoy.  Read More:  https://www.lakwatsero.com/spots/white-water-rafting-in-chico-river/#sthash.0pa8D8KZ.dpbs
