Arawatan Festival, organized in connection with Occidental Mindoro’s 68th founding anniversary celebration features an exhibition of this province’s natural attractions through a photo-exhibit, an agro-tourism trade fair showcasing agricultural, coastal and marine products, street dancing, sports events and the Ginoong Agrikultura & Bb. Turismo 2018, among others.

Arawatan is a Mangyan term from the Hanunoo tribe which means “cooperation” and “helping each other”. This is not merely a word which denotes something but is part of the tribe’s culture. Arawatan comes from the root word awat which means “help” or “assist”.
In a Mangyan society, arawatan spirit is experienced throughout the year in every activity or endeavour. The Mangyan’s livelihood is basically agricultural and arawatan is employed by the people in their activities.
In its deepest sense, arawatan can be considered as a festival because it embodies unity, communal spirit and cooperation. It is the time of the year when people converge for significant activities to attain success and positive results. This Arawatan spirit, aside from mountain isolation has helped the Mangyan culture alive uop to this day and unique for the island of Mindoro.
