SIARGAO is just a part of Surigao del Norte.
However, it often overshadows Surigao del Norte because of its popularity.
Most people come to Surigao del Norte to go surfing. It’s not a secret that in the Philippines, the best place to meet the waves is in Siargao Island, which is part of Surigao del Norte. Although that is where most tourists go, the province has several other attractions to visit. Read More: https://triptheislands.com/destinations/top-10-must-visit-attractions-of-surigao-del-norte/
We made our only stopover at the remote, 5-km. long white-sand Alegria Beach in Sta. Monica town, inside a reef-fringed lagoon in Siargao Island’s northeast. Despite the inclement weather, the water here was turquoise green and calm.
Probably due to its isolated location, there were no foreigners in sight, a good sign that tourists have not flocked here yet, leaving the beach unspoiled and preserving its local flavor. There were no buildings or hotels around, just a lot o coconut trees, a few picnic huts and a hammock slung between two trees.
The beach is quite long so you don’t have to worry even if you find some tourists when you get there. Perfect for those who want to relax for a while with nobody else around. For the more adventurous, there is a surf spot here but this normally only works during the surf season, around September. Our group landed on the fine, white sand of Basul island on a peaceful afternoon. The sun is undoubtedly felt, consciously tingles the skin and crystallizing the sand beneath my feet. On the other side of this plateful wonder is a rugged rocky shore, a far cry from where our boat took us. The two faces of the island show the natural wonders and versatility of Basul.
Simple cottages that are similar to a traditional kubo are available to tourists and visitors who want to enjoy the waters and even stay overnight in the island. Only 50php ($1.5) per person or 450php ($5) per cottage given to the caretaker, and the whole island is yours to enjoy. Note that there are no stores in the area so make sure to bring food and water for your trip.
To experience a truly relaxing day and be one with the nature, bring your own tents for an overnight stay. Do not forget your flashlight to add light to the stars in the night time.
Basul island is a must visit when in Surigao City. It is truly one of the islands that can capture peace and beauty that is mostly lacking in our everyday lives. Read More: https://www.choosephilippines.com/go/islands-and-beaches/323/Surigaos-Finest-Basul-Island
An islet in the anti-mining town of Bacuag in Surigao del Norte has become the latest tourist attraction in the province after the local government unit installed a hanging bridge that connects the mainland to the islet.
