Kawa Hot Bath is an activity you cannot miss when exploring Antique. There are lots of resorts around Tibiao that offer this activity, we just told our habal-habal drivers that we’re going to have a Kawa Hot Bath , and they automatically took us to Kawa-Kayak Inn.
The kawa (cauldron) that are being used as hot tubs were actually previously used in sugar factories. You’ll see how creative and resourceful people could become. It easily became a big hit as it is a very uncommon, yet, enjoyable and relaxing activity to do, especially in cooler and mountainous places like Tibiao. For some, seeing photos of a tourist having a Kawa hot bath in Antique looks scary. At first, it looks like someone is being cooked for a huge tribal celebration. Yeah It may look weird but this is probably one of the best tourism product I’ve seen in years.
Imagine an old rusty kawa (huge pan) turned into a clean hot bath tub with a local twist! Upon arrival at the place, we immediately selected our own Kawa then minutes after, we found ourselves enjoying a hot bath under the huge trees overlooking the beautiful Tibiao River and some nice rice terraces from afar. Tibiao is a town that is being developed as an eco-tourism hub at this side of Western Visayas. Boracay may be the most well-known from among the places at this side of the country, but nearby Antique is emerging as a top notch destination.
Its biggest attraction drawer is a vat, a cauldron or a “kawa” as called by the locals. These kawa were once used for cooking muscovado (raw brown sugar). Now, they are transformed into a bath tub where one can relax while communing with nature and some fire under it to bring about a lukewarm sensation. Hence the term Kawa Hot Bath.
Tibiao Kawa Hot Bath is said to bring about a unique therapeutic experience. More than the relaxation, it’s the thought of being in a water-filled, large vat + fire underneath that brings about a fun and awesome experience. To make it a more delightful experience, herbal leaves and flowers are chopped off and are added to the bath for a more aromatic bath.
