DAWA FESTIVAL

The Dawa Festival is is held in the town of Gonzaga in Cagayan, to celebrate the bountiful harvest.The word “Dawa” translates to the phrase “Flowers of Rice.” It usually involves traditional activities like dances, concerts by local and national celebrities, agri-trade fairs, cultural nights, and beauty pageants participated by the province’s most beautiful women plus exciting cooking contests and parlor games.

The municipality of Gonzaga is celebrating its week long 1st Dawa festival from May 10- 13 as a manifestation of the Gonzagaños’ gratitude to the Almighty Father for their abundant rice harvest.
Gonzaga is blessed with wide and fertile soils suitable for rice production that is why majority of his constituents are engaged into rice planting. “Dawa” is an Ilocano term which means flowering stage of rice plants.
The celebration includes street dance competition wherein participants of all ages ranging from elementary to senior citizens. A trade fair of agricultural products of farmers is also being showcased. Other activities include a balikbayan night, pageant for the Mutya Daguiti Dawa, local traditional games and a live performance of actress Vina Morales.
