MATAGOAN FESTIVAL

The Matagoan Festival celebrates the warm and peaceful relationship between and among the different tribes that reside in Tabuk. The festival highlights the indigenous practices, arts, and dances of the different sub-tribes. It is celebrated on the 16th of June every year.

A showcase of the cultural practices of the eight sub-tribes of Tabuk (Biga, Tobog, Dallac, Malbong, Naneng, Gaddang, Guilayon, Colminga). Serves as a culminating activity of Tabuk Day. Events include: Dornat – strenthening of the Bodong ties between two tribes; presentation of cultural songs and dances; and Matagoan Run or a 6-kilometer run from Bulanao up to the municipal hall in the Poblacion.

The Matagoan festival was first celebrated last June 24, 2002 in Tabuc City, Kalinga. The festival is created to remember that Tabuk is now a municipal city of Kalinga. This is also the Foundation Day of Tabuk City.

The festival is a showcasing activity that promotes the Kalingas heritage culture and tradition.

The Motagoan Festival starts at seven in the morning with street parade followed by the 7 kilometer marathon or known as Matagoan Run. The hiking and trekking activity is always held the Matambong ad Bangabanga falls. And lastly the water drafting to Chico River. The highlight of the Matagoan Festival is the search for Ms. Tabuk. A beauty pageant organized to the local young women of Tabuk.

Matagoan Festival is a mix modern celebration of their music, dances and fashion. The closing of the events is the awarding ceremonies of all winners.
