Liguasan Marsh is a marsh in the Mindanao River basin in the southern island of Mindanao, Philippines.
The marsh covers an area of around 2,200 square kilometers (850 sq mi) spanning the provinces of Cotabato, Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat. 300 square kilometers (120 sq mi) of this area is reserved for a game refuge and bird sanctuary
At least 92 species of birds, dozens of fish species, six species of reptiles and five species of amphibians are recorded to live in the area. The marshland is the only area in the Philippines where the comb-crested Jacana can be sighted according to the Haribon Foundation. The place is also one of the few places in the country where there are populations of the Philippine crocodile and the Estuarine crocodile, and in the forested area of the march, the Philippine eagle.
Liguasan Marsh is also noted for its natural gas deposit which is estimated to cover a radius of 300 square kilometers (120 sq mi). Read More: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liguasan_Marsh

Liguasan Marsh is not your regular tourist spot. It is a beautiful place shrouded with mystery and fear. Years of armed conflict between Muslims and Christians has effectively warded outsiders off. But my friends and I aren’t your regular tourists. We crave adventure, things that challenge our sensibilities (not that we have plenty of it). We only live once, so better make it one for the books, we always say.
Exploring Liguasan Marsh is therefore a perfect lazy Sunday activity for us. There’s nothing better than sitting in a narrow motorized canoe and admiring the beauty of the scenery, the marriage between nature and people as we pass by.
All the while praying we don’t tip over or get eaten alive by crocodiles. Read More: http://mindanation.com/what-war-liguasan-marsh-is-peaceful-beautiful-alive/

Located in the basin of the Mindanao River in south-central Mindanao, North Cotabato and South Cotabato Provinces, the Liguasan Marsh is a vast complex of river channels, small freshwater lakes and ponds, extensive marshes and arable land subject to seasonal flooding in the basin of the Mindanao River.
The marsh is currently home to approximately a hundred thousand Maguindanaon families whose main source of livelihood are fishing when water levels are high and when they are low, they are on agriculture. Such beauty! And, because of its very rich wildlife, the marsh has considerable potential for nature tourism. However, the area is a stronghold of the Moro National Liberation Front and access is restricted.
Liguasan Marsh’s principal vegetation includes Livistona rotundifolia, Corypha elata, Nypa fruticans,Areca catechu, Pandanus tectorius, Calamus mallis, Asplenium nidus, Drynaria quercifoliaand and also a wide variety of climbing ferns and orchids.
