Sugat is a yearly religious tradition among us Filipinos during the Easter Sunday, which happens at the end of the lent season. Kabanhawan, on the other hand is actually a Cebuano dialect which means resurrection. In Minglanilla, the sugat is considered to be one of the town’s biggest celebration. The parish has been long practicing this tradition since 1887. And at present, it is being witnessed by not just hundreds but thousands of people, not only Minglanillahanons but as well as Cebuanos outside the vicinity that have come to hear of it.

Just like the highly celebrated Sinulog Festival, the Kabanhawan Festival was made for goodness of the municipality. On its starting year, the Sugat was held inside the Minglanilla Sports Complex but later did the organizers realize that it was improper. Now on its 7th year, Sugat Kabanhawan Festival has boomed with lots of surprises. And with each year, it has been made even more beautiful with its improvements. In addition to that, the participating contingents have made efforts to present with such colourful props and costumes. Not to mention, their lively dances in celebration to the resurrected Christ. It is also a way of expressing their joy and happiness of the event.  Read More:  https://krizbitzblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/07/minglanilla-cebu-sugat-and-kabanhawan-festival-2011/

Sugat – Kabanhawan Festival is an annual event of Minglanilla (a town located south of Cebu, Philippines) in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ or better known as, the Easter Sunday.  Kabanhawan is a Cebuano word for Resurrection .

The celebration starts with a Sunday dawn mass, followed by a presentation depicting the meeting of the risen Christ and the sorrowful mother. The event is called Sugat in Cebuano dialect.

Prior to the Sugat event, the town of Minglanilla added a little flavor to that biblical moment. Before the actual Sugat, there is a little drama presentation in which there is a battle between the good, and evil forces. What made it exciting is that, there will be a lot of aerial fight scenes… Yes, you read it right, an Aerial fight scenes because the actors were suspended that made them look like they are flying while doing their stunts.  Read More:  https://thebrainytraveller.wordpress.com/2014/05/05/minglanillas-sugat-kabanhawan-festival-2014/
