If you are looking for a historical place to visit in Cebu, then aside from the Magellan’s Cross in the center of the city, Fort San Pedro is definitely worth seeing. You can explore it in just half a day.
3-4 hours would be enough time to learn an important slice of the history of the Queen City of the South and you’ll have the afternoon to maybe have a picnic at the Plaza Independencia right in front of it if the weather is okay or just cool off in SM or Ayala.
You have to pay an Entrance fee and opening hours are from 8AM to 6PM. It is advisable you go on a weekday to avoid the crowd and fully enjoy the now museum-park structure. Weekends are still okay though, but be prepared to encounter more tourists. Read more: https://jauntexpress.wordpress.com/tag/fort-san-pedro/

Cebu City known as the Queen City of the South is regarded as the oldest city in the Philippines. It is one of those cities rich in historical attractions as this is where the first Spanish settlement took place. These historical attractions served as the monument of the city’s tumultuous past.
One of the city’s historical attractions is Fort San Pedro which is known as the smallest and oldest fort in the Philippines. It is located near Plaza Independencia, in the pier area of Cebu City, Cebu in the Philippines. The fort served different purposes at various times in the island’s history.
Fort San Pedro was built by Spanish and Cebuano laborers as a military defense structure. The fort’s name was taken from Miguel Lopez de Legazpi’s flagship “San Pedro” in which he sailed the Pacific Ocean. They started the building of Fort San Pedro on May 8, 1565 eleven days after their arrival in Cebu with Legazpi himself breaking the ground. I spent a few hours touring Fort San Pedro in the old part of Cebu. Built to repel Muslim and native pirates in 1565, at one time the Fort stood next to the water. Reclamation over the past 500+ years has moved the foreshore about 500 meters away. You can barely see the ocean now because of intervening buildings and trees.
The Fort is triangular and has a total area of 2,025 square meters, with walls that are 20 feet high and eight feet thick, and three towers that rise 30 feet from the ground. It garrisoned over 200 men.
There is an interesting museum and the guard on duty was very knowledgeable, taking great pride in explaining the displays and ancient artifacts. Unfortunately, picture taking wasn’t allowed in the museum. Read More: https://hoz49.wordpress.com/2008/04/27/fort-san-pedro/#more-362
