A procession at sea led by the Patron Saint of Bilang-Bilang, Virgen dela Paz Y Buen Viaje, the patroness of good voyage aboard a beautifully adorned vessel followed by colourful motor launches and bancas passing through the Surigao Strait and back to the City wharf. Bonok-Bonok Festival

The festival is held every year in the honor of Señor San Nicolas de Tolentino, the city’s patron saint. All the merriment and joy-making is an expression of thanksgiving for the bountiful harvest, peace and good health, and at the same time, invoking the Almighty, through the intercession of Señor San Nicolas de Tolentino, for another year of very good harvest. Bonok-bonok literally means “rain” while maradjaw karadjaw” means very good–all taken into context, the festival’s name means “Rain Showers, All the Very Best”–with rain as symbol of blessing, good tidings, good harvest,and happiness among Surigaonons.  What makes one fully appreciate its uniqueness is the way the City gives credence and honor to age-old traditions of the indigenous settlers of the Surigao, and mainstreaming their culture to the modernizing society.   Read More:  https://allaboutfiesta.wordpress.com/2016/09/16/bonok-bonok-maradjaw-karadjaw-festival-surigao-city/

 

Tinabangay Festival

Tinabangay Festival happens every February 22 of each year. Tinabangay comes from a bisaya word “tabang” which means help, tinabangay then means to help together as a community or bayanihan. Tinabangay festival is celebrated by the island town of Socorro in the province of Surigao del Norte.
