KAWAYANAN FESTIVAL
Cebu and Mindoro Oriental both celebrate their own versions of Kawayanan Festival.

The Kawayanan Festival happens every 1st of October. It started in 2003 and is held every year since then. The 1st of October also happens to be the founding anniversary of the town of Gloria.
From its name, the Kawayanan Festival celebrates one of the most abundant resources of the town, the bamboo. Gloria is home to wide areas of land for growing different bamboo varieties. Students from different levels perform in the street dance with costumes made from or inspired by bamboo. Meanwhile, the different barangays showcase various bamboo crafts from as small as home displays to as large as a whole bamboo hut. Aside from its large produce of rice and coconut, Gloria has an exclusive reputation of possessing vast tracts of land growing different varieties of bamboo. The staging of the Kawayanan Festival focuses on the affluence of “kawayan” (bamboo) in the area. Similar to other festivals, it is being celebrated with streetdancing performances mostly by students from the different levels. Costumes are also made of bamboo materials. A trade fair is also a special attraction, with its varied display of products like furniture, souvenirs and novelties all made from bamboos. Last December 3-8, 2017, the Mlang Community commended its ninth Kawayanan Festival. Simultanaeous to the yuletide season, mammoth christmas trees planned with vivid lights filled the court of Mlang. Funfairs, Ferries Wheel, Food Stalls and Ukay-ukay Stalls were likewise worked around the region, it filled the Mlang with an euphoric and cheerful climate.
It was a night of delight, triumph and giggling that the general population of Mlang will treasure. It was just a single of the numerous exercises and summits of the Kawayanan Festival. This celebration fortified and will keep on bonding the general population of Mlang as the years will pass. The recollections procured are genuinely the best and is worth to treasure.
