KALAP FESTIVAL

Kalap Festival is celebrated every March 21, it is the city’s official festival. It was originally derived from the tagalog word Kalap means to gather, during the old times people gather woods to provide warmth and to cook food. The term was then use as the name of the festival to show the culture and history of Calapan City. It was launched on 2009 and is still successfully being held every year. Participated by various sectors of Calapan’s broad citizenry, the people walk the city streets moving as one. It is intended to be a yearly celebration packed with performances, colorful floats, and most significant of all, history. Along the main streets, floats detail the defining moments of the city’s past, an insight into the City of Calapan of today. As historians say, Calapan came from the word “Kalap” which is believed to be a kind of tree. Others say kalap means a process of gathering woods. From this research, it is developed into deeper analysis and interpretation of such word which could be the basis of the festival; celebration, since the festival will gather series of historical facts about Calapan tied up on discipline values, unity and GOD living Citizenry. Kalap celebration commemorates those establishing commemoration from claiming Calapan City, Oiental mindoro. It celebrates each 21st of March, the commemoration of the town for Calapan, highlighted Toward the road moving and bright coast parade portraying those history for Calapan and the root of its name starting with which the celebration determined its sake. A happy mixture from claiming socio-civic, cultural, historical, furthermore sports exercises. Kalap celebration may be celebrated each Walk 21, it will be the city’s official celebration.
