PAMITINAN FESTIVAL

The “Pamitinan Festival” highlights the founding anniversary of the town of Rodriguez, Rizal formerly known as Montalban. Celebrated from December 17 to 23, the festival culled after the famous Pamitinan Cave or Cave of Bernardo Carpio, which aims to preserve its contribution to the historic quest for independence by the 8 Katipuneros led by Gat Andres Bonifacio. Likewise, a street dancing competition is held to depict the multi-faceted culture of the Montalbeños. Street dancers from the various barangays of Rodriguez town in Rizal interpret the legend of mythical hero Bernardo Carpio as part of the Pamitinan Festival to mark its 109th municipal founding anniversary. According to legend, Carpio is a man with supernatural strength trapped between two great rocks in the mountains of Montalban, preventing them from crashing into each other. The weeklong festivity is named after Pamitinan Mountain, used as a stronghold of the Katipunan revolutionary movement led by Andres Bonifacio, which first declared the country’s independence from Spain in 1895. The Pamitinan Festival was created to honor the discovery of the town of Rodriguez (formerly Montalban), Rizal .
