CRESTA DE GALLO
Cresta de Gallo, roughly translated as ‘cock’s comb’ because of its shape which resembles the comb of a rooster, is a beautiful, isolated island under the jurisdiction of the province of Romblon.
Cresta de Gallo is considered by many as part of the road-less-taken destination. It is far and a little expensive. There are no resorts in the island, although you can camp there for the night if you wish to. Facilities for comfort such as showers and toilets are nowhere to be found, except for that one little nipa hut where one lady lives. The island is private and is mostly a resting area for fishermen.
And although it is off the beaten path, a Cresta de Gallo journey is worth every sweat and penny. Crystal clear waters, a magnificent sandbar, white sand, unspoiled environment, rich marine life, perfect diving spot. Sailing to Cresta de Gallo Island was such a wonderful experience. We were able to see the horizon (you can hardly see this view in the city), and everything was blue and bright. The Sibuyan Sea was also so calm and the panoramic landscape of Mt. Guiting Guiting was so dreamy, that it was almost as if that day was made perfect for us.
After about an hour of crossing the Sibuyan Sea, we were finally able to see the clear turquoise waters of Cresta de Gallo. Since it was low tide, we docked at the other side of the island.
While everyone else moved towards the tip of the island from where we docked, the adventurous me decided to walk towards the opposite direction with my Fitbit Blaze smart fitness watch. Apart from the excitement of knowing the number of steps my Fitbit will report, my aim was also to explore the entire island on foot. Along the way, I was greeted by rock formations, blue skies, and calm seas. It was only when I finally reached the other side of the island did I notice that I already did more than 6,000 steps according to my Fitbit Blaze watch. Hooray to calories burned! Cresta De Gallo, popularly known by Sibuyanon as Isla De Gallo*, is a small island under the jurisdiction of San Fernando, one of the three municipalities of Sibuyan. The other municipalities are Cajidiocan and Magdiwang.
Isla De Gallo is located in the southernmost tip of Sibuyan. Getting here would take various land and sea transpo from Manila, even if you take airplane which is to land in Tablas Island. Below is one of the cheapest way to enjoy the Cresta De Gallo with overnight camping. We have an uncle living in Cajidiocan, hence, we did not opt to camp out in the island but this is doable as what most tourist did. Also, added in the itinerary is the country’s cleanest inland body, the Cantingas River. Read More: https://doraileenanddiegoson.wordpress.com/2018/06/06/cresta-de-gallo-a-must-visit-in-romblon/
