TOURIST SPOTS IN

SURIGAO DEL NORTE

SIARGAO is just a part of Surigao del Norte.
However, it often overshadows Surigao del Norte because of its popularity.

Siargao Island is a tropical paradise located in the Surigao del Norte province of the Philippines. This teardrop-shaped island has grown steadily in popularity over the past few years and is often known as the country’s surfing capital. Visitors come from all over the Philippines and across the globe to experience the world-class surf, white sand beaches, beautiful sunsets, natural rock and cave pools, and smaller neighboring islands. There is something here for every kind of traveler, whether you are looking for excitement or relaxation. The heart of downtown Surigao for over 100 years, this plaza remains the centerpiece of the city, hosting annual events, gatherings and concerts. A few pre-war acacia trees survive, enhancing this park’s laid back Spanish appeal in the shadow of Surigao Cathedral. Heading up to TakTak waterfall in Santa Monica is a full- day adventure to the north part of the island. From General Luna the waterfall is 1.5-hour drive but is well worth the effort. We enjoyed the waterfall to ourselves. Cliff jumping, tree jumping, and exploration to the top of the falls were the highlights of the adventure.

Tayangban Cave Pool

Tayangban Cave Pool was one of the highlights of my many adventures throughout Siargao. It was one of the best caving experiences I have had in Asia. For 15 minutes you swim and float in darkness, only aided by torches. Bats fly around you until you finally emerge to the open cave pool where you can cliff jump from seven meters.

We didn’t know what to expect as we headed inside the small opening. It seemed as if we were just in a backyard or a mangrove swamp. Caving in Asia is often hit and miss but we ended up having a blast in what is the best Siargao cave.

Immediately after descending through the opening, we were chest-deep in water. We swam through the dark caves, guided by a solitary torch. From time to time bats swooped down on us and eerie noises shot out from the distance. The water was mostly chest height so you could walk through in most sections if you prefer.  Read More:  https://www.journeyera.com/tayangban-cave-pool/
