TOURIST SPOTS IN

SURIGAO DEL NORTE

SIARGAO is just a part of Surigao del Norte.
However, it often overshadows Surigao del Norte because of its popularity.

Surigao City is nestled in the north-eastern area of Mindanao. Its rich Spanish heritage and the abundance of its mineral reserves makes the province dearly treasured. In fact, because of its continuous progress and development, the city is among the most competitive small-sized cities in the Philippines. Naturally, vacationers and locals alike find it a must to visit Surigao for its famed tourist spots. For backpackers and those going solo-tripping, Surigao is all the more a worthy destination to see and most definitely to conquer. Secret Beach

Use Google Maps and search for “secret beach Siargao”. From General Luna, you drive south on Union Road until you see a small path to the left with a small sign saying Guiwan surfing area.

You need to walk through the coconut farm for around 8 minutes to get to the beach and it is by far the nicest walk I’ve done on this island. Starting 4pm, surfers will stop by the secret beach and ride the waves. This spot is way less touristy than Cloud 9 and you can enjoy a tourist free beach with some surfers having fun. I got most of my shots here, as it was really beautiful and local.  Read More:  https://eypee.com/siargao/

The most popular attraction on Siargao Island is the Cloud 9 surfing area in General Luna. It is actually one of the most well-known surfing spots in the entire Philippines, as the right-breaking reef creates a barrelling wave known for its thick, hollow tubes. A surfing competition sponsored by the government of Surigao del Norte is held here every year. Cloud 9 is only recommended for advanced surfers, as it breaks on a very shallow reef. It is also best to come at mid to high tide, as low tide exposes most of the reef.

Even if you are not a surfer or not quite up to the skill level it takes to tackle Cloud 9, it is still highly recommended that you come and take a stroll along the boardwalk. Extending far into the sea, the boardwalk leads to a three-story viewing platform where you can watch the surfers. It is also a wonderful place to take photographs of the ocean. The best time to come is around sunrise or sunset. Silop multi-caves is only 15 minutes away from the city proper of Surigao. It’s a well know attraction that the people from there already has a system for tourists and visitors of the caves. You have to register to the Barangay Center first to be pay the fee and to be given a helmet, gloves and headlamp.

After this process in 15 minutes more you’ll reach the caves. Silop multi-caves is composed of 6 cave systems where 2 out of that 6 is open for spelunking. You’ll be going through holes and narrow passageways throughout the experience. The first cave isn’t open for tourists as it’s being populated by snakes and bats, also, bat dungs are everywhere and has a pungent smell.
