Alubihod Beach is one of the biggest tourist draws in Guimaras because of its white sand beach and peculiar yellow rocks. Its clean blue sea with gentle waves and good elevation is excellent for swimming. This beach also lets you enjoy a wonderful view of the horizon that’s sitting side by side with nearby islands that are filled lush green plants that are cool to the eyes. As the twilight settles, a serene and silent beach takes over to give you a relaxing and pleasant evening. Quietly sitting by the shore while gazing at the fascinating stars and listening to the calm sound of the waves perfectly relieves your mind from stress and concerns. If you haven’t had enough swimming, certain parts of the beachfront have lights and lifeguards until late in the evening so you can continue the splashing fun. Being an island province, Guimaras has an extensive coastline, and along this majestic stretch is Alubihod Beach, widely recognized as one of the best beaches the province has to offer. Its powdery white sand shores are a sight to behold and touch, and the beach is seen as a great alternative to Boracay itself. The beach is tranquil and scenic, like coming straight out of a romantic movie. It is probably how a tropical paradise should look like, with the blue and white waves crashing on the sands and palm branches gently swaying in the breeze.
The beach is great for relaxing and having fun under the sun. Lots of visitors just enjoy lounging and sunbathing all day, or having picnics on the beach. The waters are ideal for swimming, diving, snorkeling and boating. The sea still harbors a wealth of marine life and is best explored with experienced guides. Arriving at Alubihod, one of our worst fears was realized – or so we thought. It was a public beach alright with a good number of visitors basking in the water on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Perhaps after having gone to some of the best beaches in the country we weren’t expecting much from this beach but we were surprised upon encountering it in person. Despite the crowds the beach was immaculately clean and seemed to have maintained its pristine nature. Reddish smooth pebbles mixed in with fine, creamy white sand gave the beach a rust-colored, even pinkish hue, although not as pinkish as the one we saw in Matnog’s Subic Beach and Tikling Island. Visitors frolicked in the turquoise waters even as a moderate surf playfully pounded the beach front. Perimeter floaters, while somewhat distracting to photographers taking snapshots of the beach, served to keep swimmers, particularly children, from venturing too far out. It’s heartwarming to realize that, given the condition of the beaches today, the island seems to have recovered from the disastrous oil spill of 2006 when a tanker went down off the southern coast of Guimaras, spilling 500,000 liters of bunker oil far and wide.
