Angono-Binangonan Petroglyphs

The Angono Petroglyphs are petroglyphs carved into a rock wall in Angono, Rizal, Philippines. It consists of 127 human and animal figures engraved on the rockwall probably carved during the late Neolithic, or before 2000 BC. They are the oldest known work of art in the Philippines. These inscriptions clearly show stylized human figures, frogs and lizards, along with other designs that may have depicted other interesting figures but erosion may have caused it to become indistinguishable. The engravings are mostly symbolic representations and are associated with healing and sympathetic magic. The site is sacred for indigenous Tagalog folk religion and is believed to be a home for anitos.

The site has been declared by the National Museum of the Philippines as a National Cultural Treasure in 1973. It is also included in the list of the World Inventory of Rock Art in 1985 and historic sites of the World Monuments Watch and World Monuments Funds and part of the Philippines’ tentative list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Calinawan Cave

Situated in Barangay Tandang Kutyo of Tanay, Rizal, Calinawan Cave is an enormous cave system composed of multiple levels and various chambers and openings. History tells us that the cave served as hideout by Filipino revolutionaries during Spanish-American war, and a shelter during the Second World War. How it got its name, according to local folklore, has a touch of history too, as it was where the Japanese and American troops settle their disputes, thus Calinawan from the Filipino word “linaw” which means to settle or to clear.

But more than its historical significance, the natural beauty of the cave’s interiors and chambers are magnets that attract a lot of people that even films and television productions often use the cave as their shooting location. This resort is located in Upper Patiis, Brgy. Guinayang, San Mateo Rizal. We used public transportation to get to this place. From where we live, it is so easy to get to this resort. We just took a jeepney bound for Maly, San Mateo and got off at Sea Oil gas station in Patiis, San Mateo.

There are a total of 4 pools, 2 adult and 2 kiddie swimming pools. The water quality is fine and the pools in general are clean. The lifeguards are also very vigilant. The resort has 2 big slides available, one leads to a pool with 3 feet in depth and the other higher one to the adult pool on the other side. There are also 2 kiddie slides available in the kiddie pool. There are a lot of shower areas that guests can use as well. Hinulugang Taktak Protected Landscape, also known as Hinulugan Taktak, is a protected area located in Rizal, Philippines. Initially assigned as a recreation area, the waterfall area has been designated as a national park by virtue of Republic Act No. 6964 in 1990. Mt. Balagbag

Bordered by Bulacan and Rizal, Mt. Balagbag is one of the minor climb destinations which is relatively close to Manila.

With the elevation of 770 MASL, the unpaved road with mostly ascend wide and open trail will take you 2-3 hours before reaching the summit. Although locals recall a past when the mountain was covered with trees, so trekking during summer season, you would find the sun’s heat the only difficult part of the trail. Hence, dimtrekking is advisable (hiking very early in the morning or late afternoon).

The wide and open trail of Mt. Balagbag can be challenging during summer season, so dimtrekking is highly recommended.

Mt. Tagopo

Mount Tagapo is in Talim Island in Binangonan, Rizal. It is located at the heart of the largest lake in the Philippines, Laguna de Bay. Locals call it ‘Mt. Susong Dalaga’ because from the towns of Laguna, you can spot the peak of Tagapo, which has the form of a young woman’s breast. It has an elevation of 438 meters above sea level and is the highest point of Talim Island.

The island can be reached by taking a boat ride from Pritil Port in Binangonan. There are regular boat rides to various villages on Talim Island, but the boats only leave once they’ve gathered enough passengers. The jump-off point to get to Mount Tagapo is at Brgy. Janosa.

Hike to Mount Tagapo is ideal for beginners – its level of difficulty is 2/9. It is very easy and the ascent is gradual with some parts moderate. Mystical Cave is one of the tourist spot in Antipolo City. It is maintained by Inday Nelly. You can see here many religious and holy stalagmite and stalactite formed by water. From the name itself, “Mystical” because of the holy images found inside the cave. Nagpatong Rock

Nagpatong Rock consists of two towering limestone cliffs facing each other. These towers seem to be made up of layers of huge blocks of rock place on top of each other hence the name Nagpatong, from Tagalog word “patong” or to put on top. But how these rock formations were formed is a secret only nature knows.

The most photographed view of Nagpatong Rock is the one with a flat top which is usually taken from the other rock formation. To accomplish this shot, your guide will assist you to the flat top before going to the other rock formation to take the shot.

Nagpatong Is really an impressive formation but not for those who have weak hearts or fear of heights. Palo Alto Falls

Baras, in Rizal province, is a simple little place only about a one hour drive from Quezon City. Here in Baras is where you will find Palo Alto Falls. Palo Alto Falls are actually located in the Palo Alto Leisure and Residential Estates. This is a 200 hectare prime residential and commercial estate.

From the parking area, there are 249 concrete steps to get to the actual foot of Palo Alto Falls. The falls are about 300 metres up from the parking area. However, don’t be alarmed as the path is fully concreted/paved and only takes about 10-15 minutes. Along the way, you’ll walk through thick forests split by a small stream, with water gently trickling down through the rocks.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped and have been well thought out, making it a safe and easy place to visit and enjoy. The waterfall itself is a natural waterfall. As part of the landscaping effort, the rock pool into which the water cascades has been paved so that it’s easy to walk around in. This is great for bare feet! Parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary

If you want an outdoor-themed wedding, the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Antipolo, Rizal would be perfect. Located near Hinulugang Taktak, this modern Roman Catholic Church had its start as a seminary that was built here. When nearby residents that were attending mass at the refectory became too many, the seminary was transferred and the Quasi-Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary took in its place. This became the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 2003. Pililla Wind Farm

Located in the humble barangay of Halayhayin in Pililla, to be more precise, the Rizal Wind Farm is the newest addition to the growing list of tourism hotspots within close proximity of the capital, just two hours away. According to Alternergy Wind One Corp, the company that leads the operations of the farm, Pililla is an ideal setting for a wind farm because “it is part of a natural wind corridor created by the unique geographical features surrounding the lake.”

A lane of 27 wind turbines stand atop sloping hills at 300 meters above sea level, towering over Laguna de Bay and standing along the NW-SE line to capture the Amihan from October to March, whose speeds can reach 36km/hour. Each turbine can produce 2MW. The entire farm is estimated to be able to generate almost 150 Gigawatt hours of electricity every year. Regina Rica

The 13.5 hectares of Regina RICA (Regina Rosarii Institute for Contemplation in Asia) is located along Marilaque or Marcos Highway at Sitio Aguho, Sampaloc Tanay, Rizal. It is roughly a two hours drive from Pasig city where we originated from. We only commuted so it may take just an hour and a half if you have your own vehicle.

Upon entering the gates of the Dominican community of Regina RICA, you’ll see two iconic figures namely, the image of St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Siena at the gate. A few more steps and you’ll see some letterings on the wall where motorbikes are parked that says “Dominican Sisters of Regina Rosarii”, then you’ll have to walk a few more steps towards the building structures. But from there you’ll be able to see already the huge statue located on top of the hills they call El Shaddai Hills. Talim Island

Talim Island is the largest lake island in Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines. The hilly island is within the boundaries of the Province of Rizal, under the jurisdiction of two municipalities. The western side is part of the municipality of Binangonan, while the eastern section is part of Cardona.

The island is volcanic in origin and forms the southwest rim of the Laguna Caldera. Volcanism after the formation of the caldera created the maars and volcanic craters at the southern end of Talim Island, the largest of which is a 3-kilometer (1.9 mi) crater surrounding Brgys. Wawa Dam

Wawa Dam was built during American colonial era in 1909 as the only source of water supply for the people in the city. Today, it is an abandoned reservoir visited mostly by hikers as the place is in between Mt. Pamitinan and Mt. Binacayan.
