SULU

Hadji Panglima Tahil

Hadji Panglima Tahil, originally known as Municipality of Marungas is a 6th class municipality in the province of Sulu. It is politically subdivided into five barangays – Bangas, Bubuan, Kabuukan, Pag-asinan and Teombal. The island is about half an hour trip from Jolo via boat, depending on the weather.

Considered as the foremost natural attraction in Basilan, this island has quite a few attractions to offer. Here, the final resting place of sea-faring Badjaos can be seen. There’s also a lake with wild ducks. Tourists can do spear fishing at the Paniyagan fishing village. Finally, visitors can view avian creatures atop Mt. San Juan at the Alano Estates’ Bird Sanctuary.

The island is also steeped in history, as evidenced by the following noteworthy sites found in the area:  Museo ng Lamitan, Datu Kalun Shrine, and the  Basilan Provincial Capitol.  Read More:  http://triptheislands.com/destinations/braving-basilan-safety-travel-tips/

Our boat docked at the provincial governor’s private resort built on stilts over the coral-fringed sandbars of Takut Islets. It was a beautiful retreat with handsome views of the mountains on Jolo island. My travel companion said she “could sit down and do nothing for hours.” I, on the other hand, had less sedentary plans, donning a mask and fins to snorkel over the surrounding coral reefs.  Read More:  http://www.notey.com/@eazytraveler_unofficial/external/6580794/maimbung-sulu-island-hopping-around-maimbung-bay.html
