Cabgan Island

Cabgan Island (or just Cabgan), is the long-stretched island you will see from afar.
Its fine white sand and crystal-clear waters will welcome you and will feed your excitement to hop out of the boat.
The island has scenic views in every corner. Particularly, a cliff made of limestone rocks facing the Pacific Ocean found in the western part of the island we Barobohanons called West Life. Be warned! Waves there love to go wild.
Don’t forget to check out also the back view of island. It’s exceptional I won’t give you a hint. Read more: https://travelsandjourneysite.wordpress.com/2016/10/22/islands-worth-to-visit-cabgan-and-turtle-islands-of-barobo-surigao-del-sur/
Cagpangi Falls/Green Falls
Photo from: https://www.solitarywanderer.com/the-green-falls/
Just about 16 kilometers [or 20 minutes on average speed] from Tago, Cagpangi Falls is small and quiet. As it flows, it mesmerizes with its delicate beauty and watery grace. Comparing it to another of Surigao del Sur’s iconic falls using a musical metaphor, one may say that Tinuy-an Falls is hard rock while Cagpangi Falls is rhythm and blues.
Like all other falls, Cagpangi is seasonal: at times it gushes like a broken dam, other times it trickles like sweat. And its height is not impressive; but this becomes an advantage as Cagpangi Falls is not obscured by mists even when flowing at full volume. The better for the inner camwhores in tourists.
Canopied by a thick foliage that blows a cold mountain air, Cagpangi Falls is a natural cocoon for homo sapiens with weary heart and soul. But above all, it’s a place to celebrate nature and life because of its awe-inspiring power no matter how subdued. Cagwait White Beach Resort is formerly known as “Waikiki Beach” of the Philippines. It was dubbed that way by the famous pilot Charles Lindberg during his visits. The beach is situated in the town of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur. Today, the beach is recognized as the “Boracay of Caraga” where the yearly Kaliguan Festival is held every 24th of June. It is visited by many people during the summer season.

Campamento Cave
Photo from: http://www.thelonerider.com/2013/may/campamento_cave/pages/p5161361.shtml
One of the tourists spots in Lanzua Surigao del Sur is the Campamento Cave, with its shinning crystal stone live in the cave for thousands of years ago.
Once been part of the history of Lanuza, Campamento cave served as a garrison of the Japanese soldiers in the height of Japanese regime. A naturally preserved structure that Lanuzanhons were very proud of. The magnificent formation of stalactites and stalagmites that glow in the dark and shine when hit by light. Still a sanctuary of a large group of animals and insects like bats, snakes and giant spiders that nested inside the cave. A blended embrace of cold and warm air passing through the opening of the cave that allows you to imagine the mirror of the past. Cantilan Islands
Photo from: https://leonelagir.blogspot.com/2018/04/cantilan-libtong-rock-gem-and-ayoke.html
Beaches with gray and white sand, scenic islands and islets, as well as hills and rock formations, farmlands and greens and forests – these are the sights that greet you in the charming town of Cantilan in Surigao del Sur. Facing the Pacific Ocean, this town is a simple one. You cannot expect to see high-rise buildings or malls here. Instead, you’ll see people living the simple life. A simple, rural life at that. As you go about town, scenes such as farming rice and casting nets are what greet you.
Cantilan is a place for those who love beauty in a town that is away from the crowds. You will be amazed by its charm and by the warmth of its people. Read More: https://triptheislands.com/destinations/the-wondrous-charm-of-cantilan-surigao-del-sur/
Enchanted River
Photo from: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/hinatuan-enchanted-river
Enchanted River is as mysterious as its name itself. Like the Wakulla Springs in Tallahassee, Florida (which I had visited a couple of years ago), no one knows where the water comes from. Is it a spring? Did parts of the water come from the sea? Six hundred meters away is the coastline of Hinatuan Bay, which faces the Pacific Ocean.
The river looks like a photograph that has been photoshopped; it reminds you of the movie Blue Lagoon. The waters are so crystal clear that you can see even the deepest part. If you don’t know much about swimming, try to swim in the area where there the shade of color is from blue to green; once it is darker blue, it means it is deep already. The Enchanted River at Surigao Del Sur is crystal clear, perfect for swimming.
But what is baffling is that the waters look so shallow but no one really knows how deep the river is. There were some stories circulated that a foreigner tried to plunge into the visible riverbed and finds it unfathomable. Laswitan Falls and Lagoon
Photo from: https://www.sarwrites.com/2017/01/laswitan-lagoon.html
The Laswitan Falls and Lagoon is actually a unique 20-foot rock formation located near the shore in Cortes. This geological feature creates three natural basins so that when the surf becomes high, the huge waves would flow and spill into the main basin on the other side, thus creating a waterfall effect.
The lagoon below the rock formation is so huge in that it can fit up to 200 people – maybe even more! Tourists visiting the place can dip in these pools and get themselves splashed by the sea water coming from the other side. The lagoon has a deep part which swimmers can enjoy but there is also a shallow area that other people can dip in. Read More: https://wayph.com/travel-guide-laswitan-in-cortes-surigao-del-sur/

Libuacan Cold Spring
Photo from: https://www.destimap.com/index.php?act=attraction&a=Libuacan-Cold-Spring%2C-Tagbina%2C-Philippines
Libuacan cold spring is perfect for group gathering. The water is cold and refreshing that makes my body rejuvenated. The water is also clean and clear as matter of fact the vendor told me that before the typhoon some of the locals took water here for drinking. But I don’t recommend it guys.
Libuacan is located in Barangay Maglambing, Tagbina Surigao Del sur. If your planning to go either in Enchanted river or Tinuy-an Falls, you can include this spring in your sidetrip. If your coming from Davao City ride a bus in Ecoland bus terminal bound to Butuan. Tell the driver to drop you at San Francisco crossing. From the crossing you can ride a bus or jeep going to Tagbina. And from Tagbina you can ride a habal2 going to Libuacan. Read More: https://lakingdavao.wordpress.com/2018/05/30/libuacan-cold-spring/
Malinawa Cold Spring
Photo from: https://www.pinterest.ph/pin/351914158366844060/
One of the tourist spots in the province is Malinawa Cool Spring. It is a naturally cold spring, and the area was enhanced and beautified by the local government. The spring was developed and turned into a resort for eco-tourism.
It is popularly known as “Silop” by the locals. It is also ideal in holding events because aside from the cottages in the resort, it also has a function room which caters special events. The management also allows overnight stays and accommodations.
There is a big pool and spa in the resort. The water from the pool is very cold and clear coming from the natural spring. The place is very serene and surrounded by green vegetation. It’s very relaxing and comforting.
The very cool spring is surrounded by well-arranged big flat white rocks. The pool contains mineral water as it is welling from beneath the earth. Beneath the rock mountain is said to be a huge cave but because of the established swimming pool in the area, it is now hard to get in the cave. Mangkagangi Island
Photo from: https://y3bb.wordpress.com/2012/09/12/mangkagangi-island-in-buenavista-surigao-del-sur/
Mangkagangi Island is located off shore from Tandag Surigao del Sur. This craggy island is accessible only by a 40 minute pump boat ride. It is better known as the Bat island as it is the home of big black wild bats. It has a small strip of white sand beach on one side.Hire an expert(usually a local fisherman who also owns the pump boat). This place is treacherous, accessible only during low tide and one has to be out of the island before the onset of high tide as the waters just rush in so fast during high tide. Magkawas Falls
Magkawas Falls is one of many local gems in Lanuza tucked a kilometer into the forest from the main highway. The falls is about 40 feet high with a plunge pool that goes deeper than 7 feet – I didn’t reach the bottom and I didn’t bring my dive mask. Surounding the plunge pool is a constructed rip-raf that somehow dams the water to create that depth. The water then cascades over the rip-raf and into the stream. The water is both cold and refreshing!
The Lanuza Marine Sanctuary is just across the highway from the Magkawas Falls junction. It’s best to see both in one go. Snorkel and swim at the Sanctuary and then rinse it off at Magkawas Falls! Many thanks to the Lanuza Tourism Office for arranging this for me. Read More: http://www.thelonerider.com/2013/may/magkawas_falls/magkawas_falls.shtml
Silop Multi-caves
Photo from: http://rediscoverphilippines.blogspot.com/2011/09/surigao-del-norte.html
Silop Caves Complex is a relatively new tourist attraction of Surigao. Tourism was started in 2008 and is not very much frequented by tourists specially from Luzon. It is located 10 kilometers from the city center, about 15 min travel by habal habal.
These 6 limestone caves are still growing, meaning, they continue to change and reform each day. Do not be alarmed if you see spiders, snakes, birds, insects, and bats. Abundance of animals indicate that the cave is healthy.
Going through the 2 caves lasts for less that half an hour including picture time.
Upon exiting the 3rd cave, we had another 10 min trek back to the entrance. Read More: https://ashnsand.wordpress.com/2014/12/04/silop-caves/
Songkoy Cold Spring
Photo from: http://islaman.blogspot.com/2008/07/provincial-tour-road-trip-1.html
I can honestly stay here for a long time if I feel like escaping the hustle and bustle in the city. The water was actually clearer before the typhoon hit Southern Philippines. Good thing that when I went there there weren’t much people utilizing the spring that’s why the water still seemed clear. There’s also a mini cliff there where you can jump for fun. If you are thinking where to put your things, there are actually cottages and tables in the area.
The place is just so enchanting. It’s best if it happens when you visit the place it would be only all to yourselves. It will surely be as magical as living in fairy tale world. Listening while the birds chirp, the trees swing and feeling the cold breeze that the spring gives in is something that truly gives you a sense of satisfaction. I wasn’t able to take a lot of photos for I enjoyed it a lot for me to forget to do the job but hopefully I have brought you to one wonderful experience and made this more informative.
