Kawa-Kawa Hill is a 25-hectare area turned into a natural park to boost it as one of Albay’s top tourist destinations. Located at the quiet barangay of Tuburan, Ligao City, this unique hill that resembles a crater was called as Kawa Kawa because it also looks like a cauldron or a kawa as we say it in the local language.

If you’re looking for things to do for free while in Bicol, Kawa-Kawa Hill and Natural Park is something that you can add to your itinerary. The place is also frequented by religious devotees and most of them make it a habit to visit here every Holy Week. En route to the hill’s summit are meticulously crafted statues depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross.

There were also other recreational activities available such as renting ATVs and horseback riding. We were told they also planted sunflower but since it was not the right season when we arrived at Bicol, we couldn’t see them in their perfect bloom. However, the view was enough to satisfy our weary souls. The rim is filled with small cottages perfect for snoozing! Even though it was the peak of noon, we were blessed with cool summer breeze, I would have dozed off if not for the friendly staff of the park who chatted with me. This was the perfect conclusion to summer that I was looking for.  Read More:  http://www.thechroniclesofmariane.com/2015/08/kawakawa-hill-albay.html

The journey to the hill is adorned by the statues portraying the station of the cross. Final station of which is located in the hilltop. Currently a new church is being built in this once unknown hill. My wife and I had the chance to listed to a group of nuns singing  while praying the angelus. What a lovely sight.

As we walked our way towards the top of this hill, we have seen lots of improvements that has been added on the place since my first visit. More trees had been planted, the way to the top is highly forrested and you can hear chirping of birds and insects (kuliglig) while on our way atop.

This place, though frequented by  visitors, locals and tourists, remains to be a sanctuary for those who would just love to spend a day in a park sans the heat, sans crowd, sans noise. Wether you just want to do sight seeing, or self reflection, this is the perfect place for you. The lush greenery complimented by its serene ambiance is an experience next to none.   Read more: http://iamstyxxss.blogspot.com/2016/01/kawa-kawa-hill-in-ligao-city-albays.html
