Buganihan Festival

Buganihan Festival is held in Compostela, Province of Compostela Valley. The festival is celebrated every 25th of July until the 1st of August. Its highlight is the colorful street parade. With its vast gold deposits, Davao Region’s Compostela Valley has gained the title “Golden Province.”

But behind the minerals their mountains possess, the province is also home to different tribes practicing culture that share the same value as the bounty they hold.

To show gratitude to God who blessed them with such fortune, the province celebrates with its people through the Bulawan Festival. The festival, which is on its eighth year, is celebrated in the same week of its 20th Founding Anniversary on March 4-8.

Dapugan Festival

The Dapugan Festival is a celebration to showcase the tribal harmony, ethnic unity and their contribution to the rich harvest of the municipality. Held in ComVal, Mabini every May 28.  Dapugan is a common kagan and mansaka word which means gathering. The gathering celebrates the abundance of coastal resources of Mabini.

Diwanag Festival

MONTEVISTA, Compostela Valley province — Have you ever been to Disneyland or entered the castle of the “Beauty and the Beast” or of “Sleeping Beauty?” What about meeting Snow White and her seven dwarves, that adorable fawn Bambi, Pocahontas, the Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh, Lilo and Stitch, or Donald Duck? And of course, who wouldn’t miss Minnie and Mickey Mouse? They’re all here–and more! This time, they are adorned with Christmas lights only on this year’s 16th Diwanag Festival celebration here.

Kaimonan/Kaimunan Festival

Kahimunan/Kahimonan Festival

Reputations were at stake when horses paraded in this town dressed in their best costumes for the ninth Kahimunan Festival.  Previous festivals had brought them center stage undressed as warriors ready to fight for their lives in bloody horse fights that officials decided to put a stop to.

It was a welcome change in reputation, however, as the town continued its tradition of honoring the animal that has given its farmers immeasurable help in their good harvests and for which the horse was bestowed the title “king of the road.”  Horses again took center stage last Wednesday, but not as the fierce warriors previous fights turned them into. Kariyawan Festival

FESTIVALS should be dedicated to the people, especially to individual cultures living in a municipality.  And this is the ultimate purpose of the local government unit (LGU) of Monkayo in Compostela Valley Province in organizing different activities for its  Araw ng Monkayo and Kariyawan Festival.

A celebration of unity and thanksgiving introduced by the early Mansaka settlers of Mawab. The celebration is highlighted by a strong Mansaka presence. The Pasaka Festival pays tribute to the rich harvests of the municipality. The name of the festival was derived from the names of two Datus of the Mansaka and Muslim tribe who contributed much to the making of the municipality. P’yagsawitan Festival

P’yagsawitan Festival in the municipality of Maragusan, Compostela is a festival which involves ethnic dancing, harvest thanksgiving rituals for good harvest, and a cultural presentation by Mansaka. Sal-lupongan Festival

Sal-lupongan Festival is a festival which means sharing each and every person and the solidarity that they share. The community takes part in this event to give thanks to God for the plentiful harvest he has showered to them and for more harvest to come in the future. They also celebrate the unity and the gathering of a community which is ethnically diverse. This 10-day affair has many events and some of the most memorable ones are the indak-indak sa kadalanan, the display of fireworks during the night and the drumline competition. Simballay Festival

Simballay is an annual festivity of the Municipality of Nabunturan coined from a Mansaka word meaning, “Togetherness, sharing and thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest.”

It came into existence in 1994 when Nabunturan was named as a Provincial Agri-Industrial Center in Region XI alongside with the municipalities in Tagum and Panabo which had now become cities except Nabunturan.
