 In the municipality of Bacnotan, which is widely popular for its cement deposits and Sea Urchins, there’s a Barangay called Carcarmay, named after a tree that bears a sour-sweet yellowish fruit that grows abundant in the area. It is not however famous because of Carmay but because of an Acacia tree that has become the place’s witness of its growth in the various stages of our history. The Centennial tree is located at Carcarmay Elementary School, Bacnotan, La Union.

Based from the stories of the people of Carcarmay, after the World War II, a legion of Japanese soldiers visited the municipality of Bacnotan and they wanted to drop by at the place they were once stationed as soldiers, but unfortunately, they can’t pinpoint the exact location of their former base but one of them remembered the old Acacia tree they were hanging around before.  Read More: http://airwindzone.wordpress.com/2013/10/31/the-centennial-tree-in-bacnotan-la-union/

Popular for its cement deposits and sea urchins, the town of Badoc is home to Carcarmay Barangay which harbors the La Union Centennial Tree planted way back in 1896 as certified by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
