Scenic Gilutungan Marine Sanctuary in Cordova, Cebu, some 600 kilometers south of Manila, is fast becoming a top favorite diving destination.

Divers are cashing by renting their snorkel equipment to tourists and frolickers who want to venture the sea underneath.

Hilutungan Island Marine Sanctuary also called Gilutongan, is one of the islands in the Olango Reef which is protected by the government as fish sanctuary. This beautiful island is 20 to 30 minutes away from Mactan Island. This island is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving due to abundant corals and tropical fishes.

Within 3 to 7 meters you can have fun in feeding the fish, these tropical fishes are friendly that you can feed them with bread and swim together with you. Cebu is blessed with numerous natural tourist spots that have attracted local and foreign tourists. While some of these tourist spots have become too commercialized, there are still a number that have remained relatively undeveloped. One of these places is the Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary.

The Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary is the oldest protected area for marine life in the province of Cebu. The marine sanctuary was established in 1999 with the purpose of protecting the marine resources of the town of Cordova. The community also helps in monitoring the marine sanctuary, which saw an increase in the number of fish in the area.
