A week-long celebration of Kannawidan Ylocos Festival of Ilocos Sur celebrates its 193rd anniversary of the founding anniversary with a string of activities that expected to draw thousands of domestic and foreign tourists.
Kannawidan Ylocos Festival became an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province’ rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products of the province.

Kannawidan is an Ilocano term which means a feast of rich heritage and culture. The feast is in commemoration of the separation of the two provinces of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte by virtue of the royal decree on February 2,1818. The celebration is considered as the prime festival of the province and is a visual and is a feast for the indigenous costumes, dances, and songs, religious rituals, cookfest and trade fairs that showcases distinctly Ilocano products. The Province of Ilocos Sur once celebrated again Kannawidan Ylocos Festival for the fourth time. “Kannawidan” is a local term used by the Ilocanos which means ‘a traditional practice’. This occasion had opened the eyes of the Ilocanos to the culture and traditions their ancestors in the past had brought them.
