Begnas, an Igorot word that refers to thanksgiving or offering rituals. It’s their way to celebrate and give thanks for all the blessing they received the past year. This festival has the purpose of promoting the identity, heritage and customs and traditions of the indigenous people of the province of Ilocos Sur. Begnas Festival is a yearly tribal festival of the province usually held during the months of October or November.
There is a saying that says, eating with own hands makes the foods more delicious and tastier.
The Begnas Ylocos Festival of the province of Ilocos Sur showcases the traditions and customary practice like the dancing tadek, singing salidummay, playing abistong and drumming the gongs as part of the one day program.
But before anything else, the visitors and the residents alike eat together in the breakfast served by the residents. And in here, you have to do the traditional way of eating: without the plate, fork and spoon. Yes, everyone ate with their hands and using the banana leaf sheath as the plate.
