What was once a small municipality in Ilocos Sur is now given the name “Tobacco Capital of the Philippines,” for being the country’s largest Virginia-type tobacco producer. The Tobacco Festival itself is already a unique tradition, for it promotes an industry mostly frowned upon the rest of the world due to health concerns. When we talk about the best products and festivals in the Philippines, the province of Ilocos Sur is also one of the most visited provinces in the country. Although this province does not have huge population and high-raised structures, it is the biggest producer of Virginia-type tobacco of the country. The production is coming from Candon City and because of this; they recognize this place as the “Tobacco Capital of the Philippines.”
Because of the continuing popularity of the place as the biggest producer of this product, the government made an effort to highlight their city by introducing their annual Tobacco Festival. For the past years, this is now one of the most favorite attractions in Candon City whenever they visit the province of Ilocos Sur during the month of March. TOBACCO STREET DANCING. The residents from Candon City clad with various tobacco–inspired costumes holding other images of products being produced in the city aside from tobacco capturing the attention of thousands local and foreign tourists during the street dancing along the streets in Candon City in Ilocos Sur highlighting the 11th Tobacco Festival last week.
