Protected by high limestone cliffs, the “Tangke” which means tank/water tank in English, is a swimming pool like scenery. The water came from the sea through the small openings in the limestone formation under the sea.

There is a hut with the care taker asking for 10-peso donation for the cleanliness of the place. They keep the place free from any form of trash brought by tourists like candy wrappers and the like.

I was in awe when I saw this majestic scenery. The water was crystal clear and anyone cannot resist having a dip. Read More: http://www.bakingbyahera.com/2013/07/IslaGigantes.html

Tangke is a natural saltwater pool located in a hidden spot behind the steep cliffs of Isla de Gigantes Sur in Carles, Iloilo. Travelers and locals of Carles visit tangke to swim in its refreshing shallow waters and gaze at the beautiful rock formations.

Many myths surround this interesting natural attraction. One such story says that during the feast of Saint John the Bapist (San Juan de Bautista) on June 24, the water level inside tangke would magically rise significantly. Locals also warn visitors not to make too much commotion and noise in tangke as this would disturb the enkantos, or enchanted beings, which could cast nasty curses to those who upset them.

Tangke is located in South Gigantes Island (also called Isla Gigantes Sur) in the town of Carles, Iloilo’s Northernmost town. The jump-off point to South Gigantes Island is in Estancia town’s seaport. From there, tourists can hire a pumpboat to go to South Gigantes Island/Tangke. Travel time is approximately an hour.  Read More:  http://www.exploreiloilo.com/do/info/tangke/

The Tangke Lagoon is usually the first stop in island hopping because it is best visited in the early morning when it is high tide. Made up of saltwater, the lagoon is only filled up during high tide. If you visit during low tide, chances are you won’t have a decent amount of water to swim in and you won’t see the true beauty of its emerald green water.

From outside, with the island’s rock formations, you won’t think that somewhere among them lies a lagoon. The entrance to the lagoon is hardly noticeable if not for the numerous boats lined up toward it. Such other tourist boats are what you use as bridge to get to the lagoon. This is somehow tricky because during high tide, the waves are strong, so the boats are rocking back and forth as you cross.  Read More:  https://janwand3rs.wordpress.com/2014/07/21/isla-gigantes-island-hopping-tangke-lagoon/
