The highest bridge in the Philippines, the new Agas-Agas bridge crosses a deep ravine in the Eastern Visayas region of the country. Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency as part of the Philippine-Japan Friendship Highway Rehabilitation Project, the huge pre-stressed concrete beam bridge has 246 foot (75 mtr) and 241 foot (73.5 mtr) high piers.

The scenic location inspired the highway department to build a viewing deck on top of one of the piers in the middle of the bridge as well as parking areas on both sides with comfort rooms to rest. Standing at 75 meters above sea level and spanning 350 meters from end to end, Agas-Agas Bridge is the tallest bridge ever built in the country. It is eyed to improve the region’s market and economy as it shall facilitate transportation of goods and people from Luzon and Mindanao. It serves as a vital network to the northern and southern regions via the Maharlika Highway to key seaports in Leyte.

The bridge is situated in Sogod, Southern Leyte which has been in the past years witness to several life-threatening landslides. The opening of the bridge will not only make transportation possible year-round, it shall likewise introduce Leyte as a new tourist attraction.
