NASUGBU, BATANGAS

Nasugbu is a municipality in Batangas Province, Philippines. As of 2011 Nasugbu has not received city status, but with a population of far more than 100,000 it will almost certainly be granted. In common with many Filipino locations, Nasugbu is in the process of rebranding its international image from having been an industrial-commercial center to a tourism destination; its beaches are integral to this initiative.

Nasugbu is on the far northwestern coast of Batangas Province, and as such benefits from the white sands, numerous coves and clear blue waters typical of the area. The best beaches are somewhat to the north of the main population center. Hand-in-hand with the interest in Nasugbu as a destination site for tourists, developments have sprung up along the beaches, offering accommodations from the simplest cottages to sprawling resort complexes.

Beaches and Dive Sites

MUNTING BUHANGIN

Munting Buhangin Beach wraps around a long, sweepingly curved cove; the promontories at either end seclude it from large resort complexes along the coast. Heavy palm tree and fern cover grows right down to the beach line, so shelter is not an issue even in the hottest parts of the day. Boating, swimming and snorkeling are good in the cove, and the almost rock-free sand is fine for setting up beach volleyball nets. Camp fires are allowed, as is tent-camping on the beach overnight. A family-oriented beach camp operates on the beach line and has constructed a number of picnic benches, thatched huts, tree houses — that are used as accommodations — and hipa huts; it also has a number of temporary gazebo structures on the beach itself. Its cottages and main buildings are all but unnoticeable from the beach. – traveltips.usatoday.com

MAYA-MAYA BEACH

Diving — both scuba diving and snorkeling — is one of the Philippines’ most conspicuous tourist lures, and Maya-Maya Beach offers the best snorkeling sites close to Nasugbu. The bay is surrounded on approximately 70 percent of its footprint; the crescent features a 2,000-foot white-sand beach. The sub-aqua terrain slopes gently away from the tide line, with no unexpected or precipitous troughs that could disorient people new to the hobby; there are no conspicuous currents near the shore. The sun sets directly west of the mouth of the bay, availing visitors of some unforgettable views. – traveltips.usatoday.com

PUNTA FUEGO BEACH

Punta Fuego Beach is a residential beach resort, where members and their guests can enjoy the beach, take a stroll along the wide hilly streets, or go to the clubhouse and find many other activities to do there.

The sand is soft and cool underfoot, and the water is quite cold, too. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place.

BAMBOO BEACH AT KAWAYAN COVE

Kawayan Cove is another of northwestern Batangas’ largely enclosed bays; it is surrounded by land for more than 60 percent of its footprint, with massive rocks closing off its perimeter. Bamboo Beach takes up approximately half the radius; its sand is a consistent beige color, and the wave action is minimal. There is a resort on the beach, and staff there sell squid portions for feeding to fishes in the bay; although wild, they have learned to swim up to humans and eat from your hand. The resort’s catering operation is open to non-residents and serves primarily Filipino food. – traveltips.usatoday.com

Crescent Beach at Maniba Cove is the peninsula’s largest beach area.  Blessed with ultrafine gray sand, shallow waters and the calmest currents on the peninsula’s shores,  the beach is an ideal destination for youngsters and entire family.
